The receptionist gave Halsey an apologetic smile, “I’m sorry, but our private club has strict rules. We have to follow protocol, so please don’t inake it difficult for us.‘
hist then, a familiar voice rang out. “Hey, Halsey.”
Halsey turned and saw Gilbert. He had changed into a casual golf polo and had arrived in his sleek Ferrari.
Gilbert looked at her with a smirk. “Are you here to see Mr. Payne? What a coincidence. He invited me to play golf. But it looks like you can’t get in. How about you beg me? Maybe I’ll be generol and let you inside.”
Halsey shot him a sharp glare. “Don’t get cocky.”
Gilbert’s lips curved into a smug smile. “Oh, I’m cocky alright. It’ll only get worse. Just wait and see.”
His words were a clear threat.
At that moment, William’s assistant appeared. “Hello, Mr. Greenwood. Please come in. Mr. Payne is waiting.”
Gilbert grinned. “Great, I’m heading in now.” He stepped up beside Halsey. “See? I’m going in. Why don’t you ask me nicely?” Halsey snapped, “Get lost!”
Gilbert laughed. “One day, you’ll come crawling to me. I’m looking forward to it.”
With that, he walked inside.
Halsey was left standing outside, furious and helpless. She had no way to see William. What was she going to do?
She pulled out her phone, ready to call Riley and ask for help.
Inside, Gilbert found William. “Mr. Payne, good to see you.‘
They shook hands firmly.
William smiled. “Mr. Greenwood, it’s been a while.”
“Yes, it’s been a long time since I left the country.”
Gilbert glanced toward the entrance, where Halsey stood outside. The more she resisted, the more he wanted to conquer her.
“Shall we play some golf?” Gilbert asked. He planned to play a couple of rounds, then bring up Lincoln Enterprise.
But William waved him off. “There’s no rush. I’m still waiting for someone.”
Gilbert blinked in surprise. “You have someone else joining us today?”
William chuckled. “Yes, a close friend of mine.”
Gilbert was just a regular friend of William’s, but this person was apparently a close friend, and that piqued Gilbert’s curiosity.
“Who’s this close friend of yours? Do I know him?”
“His name is Shaun Lane,” William answered. “He’s the founder of GM Tech.”
GM Tech?
Gilbert had definitely heard of GM Tech. Though the company had only been around for three years, its growth had been explosive–unstoppable, even. It went public in Crimselton two years ago, and its market value had doubled repeatedly, making it one of the hottest names in business today.
The founder was notoriously low–profile and mysterious. No one had seen his face, and only his name was known: Shaun Lane.

“I met Mr. Lane abroad. I ran into some trouble, and he helped me out. Mr.
Plus, he’s got a real knack for business, so we became fast friends, invine is skilled and resourceful; I admire him a lot.
William then glanced at his watch.
“He should be here any minute now.”
