Shaun stepped quietly behind her. “Keep your voice down. The soundproofing here isn’t great. If anyone hears, they might think we’re doing something naughty.”
Halsey’s face flushed bright red. She had assumed he was fully dressed by now, but in reality, he was only halfway there.
More precisely, he was wearing black dress pants, but his upper body was bare.
From her quick glance earlier, his skin was a healthy tan, his chest broad and strong, his shoulders wide, and his waist narrow. The defined six–pack abs and perfect V–line leading down into his pants stirred her imagination wildly, sending her mind spinning.
The visual impact was overwhelming. After three years of being single, Halsey felt her head buzzing as if overloaded.
Now, with Shaun standing just behind her, speaking in such a deep, magnetic voice, she felt her knees going weak.
“S–Sorry,” Halsey stammered.
“Did you need something?” Shaun asked.
She slowly turned to face him, eyes downcast, too shy to meet his gaze. “Your phone.”
Shaun took the phone and pressed the answer button. “Hello.”
“Mr. Lane, there’s an urgent document that needs your signature at the office…”
Halsey heard a woman’s voice on the other end. She figured it was his secretary, reporting on work.
Shaun switched the phone from his left hand to his right. “Got it. Send the file to my phone; I’ll handle it later.”
Halsey watched as he swapped the phone from one hand to the other, then paused.
Dwight had the exact same habit of switching hands when he took calls. Why did Shaun’s mannerisms mirror Dwight’s so perfectly?

Shaun was silent for a few seconds. Then he said, “That’s a personal matter. I don’t owe you an answer. That question is a bit too
forward.”
Halsey knew she was crossing a line, Shaun’s injuries were severe no one wanted to reopen those wounds.
Still, she had to ask. “Why won’t you answer me? What did you look like before?” Her voice was urgent,
Shaun laughed softly. “Why do you care so much about my private life? It’s like you really think I’m your boyfriend. Or are you hoping to be my girlfriend?”
Her words caught in her throat. “I…”
“Curiosity killed the cat. Some questions are better left unasked. I’m going out now.”

He turned to leave, but Halsey reached out and grabbed his arm.
Shaun looked back. Halsey tilted her head, her eyes steady and determined.
“You just remind me so much of someone I know,,
“Who is it? You’ve said that before, but when I ask who he is, you won’t say,” Shaun replied.
“I want to know for sure whether you’re him,” Halsey pressed.
