Chapter 835
Halsey spat, “Well, I don’t!”
Shann laughed in frustration, cupping her face and pulling her into a kiss. Before long, he tasted her tears.
She was crying.
Shaun stiffened, immediately letting go of her and sitting up.
Though the pain had faded, Halsey still felt uneasy. She gathered her disheveled clothes around her. Her clothes were a mess, but his pants weren’t even undone. He had only loosened his belt.
After fixing herself, Halsey slipped off the bed and tried to leave.
But a hand suddenly grabbed her wrist. Shaun held on tight, tilting his head back to look up at her. “Do you think I’m ugly?”
Halsey hesitated, about to speak.
But then, Shaun released her. “I get it. You can go.”
Get what?
But Halsey didn’t want to talk to him now. She opened the door and stepped out.
She leaned against the corridor wall, taking a deep breath. Everything that had happened in the dark was so confusing…. Just then, the door opened and Shaun came out as well. He put on his mask, still looking noble and handsome.
Without a word, Halsey turned and walked away.
At that moment, an executive approached. “Mr. Lane, you’ve been out here a long time.”
Shaun glanced at Halsey’s retreating figure and replied, “Just stepped out for a smoke.”
The executive spotted Halsey, too. “Isn’t that Ms. Halsey?”
Shaun nodded. “Yeah.”
“Oh, by the way, Mr. Lane, you’re still single, right? There are plenty of daughters from wealthy families wanting to marry you. Someone asked me to find out the kind of woman you’re into.”
Halsey hadn’t gone far. Naturally, she heard the question.
Soon, Shaun answered in a low, magnetic voice, “Ms. Halsey’s my type.”
Others had asked Dwight the same question before, and he had answered the same way: “Ms. Halsey’s my type.”
Three years had passed, but his type never changed. He had a type sure, and it was Halsey.
Halsey’s heart stirred; she turned the corner, disappearing from sight.
Back home, Halsey sank into a large bathtub, hoping to ease her tired, aching body.
Ding!
Her phone buzzed.
She unlocked it to see a text from Shaun.
[Still hurting?]

She didn’t reply.

Another message from Shaun. [I lost control today. I’m sorry for hurting you. I really am. I

Shaun was already back at GM Tech. Standing by the floor–to–ceiling windows in the CEO’s office, he typed messages to Halsey on his phone.
He knew she didn’t want to see him now, and that she was ignoring him.
Even so, Shaun sent another message. [Are you going to date Calvin?]
No answer.
Frustrated, Shaun gripped his phone, typing, [There’s still a chance my face can be fixed. If I look like I used to again… Would you still love me?]
But then he deleted the words.
Just then, a knock came at the door.
“Come in,” Shaun called.
The office door opened; his assistant, Martin Neel, stepped inside.
“Mr. Lane, we arranged for the world’s best plastic surgeon, but he said there’s probably no chance of fixing your face. The burn area is too severe, and three years have passed. The surgeon isn’t confident and declined the job.”
Another rejection.
Shaun wasn’t surprised anymore. He had seen many doctors, but every single one of them shook their head when they saw his damaged face.
