Gilbert picked up a piece of steak and calmly began cutting it into bite–sized pieces.
“We can talk afterward.”
Halsey let out a cold laugh. “What exactly do you want from me? With your status now, you could have any woman you want. Why won’t you stop bothering me? Don’t tell me you’re actually in love with me.”
Gilbert paused mid–cut and looked up at her. “What if I told you I really am?”
Halsey’s tone sharpened. “Do you even know what love is? You said you loved me, but you betrayed me.”
“I’m done with Sienna,” Gilbert replied. “Can’t you let that go?”
“Once a cheater, always a cheater! You don’t love me. You’re just jealous that I’m with Shaun. Let’s be real— guys like you can’t stand being rejected. You can’t accept that a woman doesn’t want you. That possessiveness, that need to win–it’s not love. It’s just your ego acting up!”
Gilbert shot back, “No! I really do love you!”
“Enough! Even if you did, do you even know what love is? Your idea of love is that if you can’t have something, you destroy it. Your version of love is terrifying. I want nothing to do with it!”
Gilbert’s face turned red with anger. He stared at her.
“You’re right. With my current power and status, I can get any woman I want. So why do you keep provoking me? I cheated, yeah–but don’t act like you’re clean. You slept with Shaun. You even gave him your first time!”
Halsey cut him off. “Shaun and I are in love. And even if we are together, what does it have to do with you? You and I never even truly started–we were over before anything began!”
Gilbert narrowed his eyes at her. “So you really want to piss me off?”
“I’m not trying to, but I also don’t want to be here having lunch with you. Just tell me what happened to Shaun already.‘”

“Shaun, Shaun! Ever since you got here, all you’ve talked about is Shaun! Do you love him that much?”
Halsey nodded without hesitation. “Yes. I love him.”
Gilbert went silent.
He was holding back his anger, but then he looked out the restaurant’s floor–to–ceiling window, and there was Shaun, pulling up in his luxury car.
Gilbert’s mood changed instantly. A smug smile tugged at his lips. “You want to know about Shaun? Fine. I’ll tell you.”
“I’m listening.”
Gilbert slowly cut a small piece of steak and raised it toward Halsey’s lips. “Open up.”
Halsey frowned. “What are you trying to do?”

Halsey froze.
At that moment, Shaun arrived outside the restaurant. He parked quickly and walked in.
A friendly waiter came up to him. “Good afternoon, sir. Are you dining in? How many in your party?” Shaun didn’t respond. He was already scanning the restaurant.
His sharp, cold eyes swept across the space until they landed on two people sitting by the window.
He saw Halsey and Gilbert.
Gilbert was holding a piece of steak up to her mouth. Halsey hadn’t taken a bite yet, but from the outside, it looked like something out of a romantic date–like a couple feeding each other, completely lost in each other’s world.
