After lunch, Shaun had to head off to another meeting. He was always busy.
“You should go,” Halsey told him. “I’ll stay here and work on my designs.”
Shaun looked at her and said, “I’d better not come back and find you gone again. You’re not planning to sneak off, are you?” Halsey leaned in and gave him a quick kiss. “Relax. I’m staying right here. I’m not going anywhere.”
“Promise me. I want to see you still here when I get back.”
“Promise.”
Only after hearing her say that did Shaun finally leave.
Halsey sat down and focused on her work. Not long after, someone walked into the office. She looked up with a smile.
“Why are you back already-”
Her words stopped mid–sentence. It wasn’t Shaun. It was Warren.
“Hey, Warren,” Halsey said, surprised.

Halsey could feel the tension in his tone. He didn’t like her, and she knew that. “Shaun’s in a meeting. Are you here to see him?

Warren crossed his arms. “Word’s already gotten around that Shaun carried you into the office today. I knew it. After three years, he still ended up falling back into your hands. I really don’t get it. What kind of spell did you put on him to make him so into you?”
Halsey frowned. “I remember we used to be friends. What happened? Why are you acting like this now?”
Warren gave a dry laugh. “Friends? That’s funny. Someone like me, being friends with a rich girl like you? Come on. You and Gilbert are from the same world. Shaun’s just your side piece, right?”
“How could you say that? I love Shaun. I—”
“You love him?” Warren cut her off, voice rising. “Then why did you betray him? Why did you sleep with Gilbert?!”
His words hit her hard. Her long lashes trembled. “What are you even talking about? When did I ever betray Shaun? When have l ever slept with Gilbert?”
“You’re seriously going to deny it?” Warren said sharply. “You only came back because Shaun suddenly turned into some big shot in the business world! Don’t act like you’re all innocent. You’re the most calculating one here.”
Faced with his accusations, Halsey felt completely lost. “I-”
Just then, a deep, low voice cut in, cool and full of displeasure.
“Warren, what are you doing here?”
Halsey looked up.
Shaun was back. He stood tall in the doorway, his cold eyes fixed on Warren with clear irritation.
“I was just talking to Ms. Halsey,” Warren said.
Shaun walked in and stood beside Halsey. “Are you done? Let the past stay in the past.”
