Chapter 100
“Tell you what for,” Eleanor snapped, clearly annoyed. “Chris, I just went through something terrifying. Even if you don’t look to see if I’m okay, you’re pestering me about what happened ages ago
“Back in high school, in the afternoon–don’t you remember?” Chris pressed. “I always thought it was Serena who saved me, so I’ve been grateful to her all this time.”
Tyler’s brows knitted together as he scooped Eleanor up in his arms. “She needs a checkup. Don’t get in the way?
Tyler’s face was stormy as he shot Chris a glare sharp enough to cut glass.
Chris wanted to keep asking, but when he saw that fierce look in Tyler’s eyes, he lowered his eyes and dared not speak again.
“I’m fine,” Eleanor said, trying to wriggle free.
“You must go for a checkup,” Tyler said coldly.
Eleanor could feel his anger radiating through his grip. Why was he so mad–because Chris mentioned the past?
The doctor examined her. Just some bruises and shallow wounds–nothing serious.
“See? I told you, I’m fine.” On the way back to her room, Eleanor noticed Tyler’s face was still dark. She reached out and grabbed his hand.
Tyler was fuming inside and wanted to pull away but instead turned his hand to hold hers tighter.
On the way here, Tyler’s heart was in his throat. Seeing a man lying next to Eleanor, with a knife not far away, scared him
more.
Tyler had always kept his temper in check around Eleanor, afraid of scaring her. But now, just thinking about losing her made his anger boil over. “Is this what you wanted to tell me earlier?” he asked, his voice tight.
“What?” Eleanor thought for a second. “I saw someone at the window and wanted to tell you, but you were busy. I figured it wasn’t a big deal.”
“I’m your husband,” Tyler said, struggling to keep his anger in check. “When something happens, you don’t think of telling me first? Do I not exist to you?”
“I just thought… I could handle it myself,” Eleanor mumbled. “And look, I did.”
“That’s only because he wasn’t prepared. What if he had been? What would you have done then?” Tyler’s voice was low and tense. “I’m to blame too. I didn’t have the patience to hear you out.”
Linda, anxious after hearing about the incident, was finally relieved when they returned. “Eleanor, are you alright?”
“I’m fine, Mom,” Eleanor reassured her.
Tyler looked apologetic. “This is on me. I should’ve noticed something was off. I shouldn’t have left before Eleanor finished talking.”
“What do you mean by that?” Linda asked, confused.
Eleanor tugged at Tyler’s sleeve and whispered, “Grandma always said Mom didn’t like girls learning martial arts.”
Tyler nodded. “Mom, thankfully Eleanor learned some self–defense when she was little. It’s actually a good thing for girls to
know a bit of martial arts.”

Eleanor shot Tyler a glare. He ratted her out just like that.
Linda looked surprised. “She learned piano, chess, calligraphy, painting, and even dance when the was a kid, but we never had her learn anything like martial arts.”
“It was Grandma.” Eleanor said quietly. “Her old neighbor taught me a few moves when I was little. Grandma was worried you’d be upset, so she told me not to tell you.”
Since the truth was out, she stopped hiding it. It wasn’t like it was shameful.
“Mom, I think Grandma did the right thing.” Tyler said with a grin. “Now you don’t have to worry about me bullying her. She could totally take me down with a couple punches. Not so easy to mess with her.”
Linda fell silent. After everything that had happened lately, she saw things differently now. If she’d heard this before, she probably would’ve been upset, blamed Eleanor for not telling the truth, and thought her mother–in–law was a troublemaker even after she passed.
Now, she just let out a long sigh. “It’s not a bad thing. If I get the chance, I’ll thank that master properly”
“She’s off traveling the world these days. No idea where she is now,” Eleanor replied.
“I heard the police have people patrolling to keep things safe. You two should go get some rest, Linda said. “Don’t woTTY, they’ve got him.”
Eleanor shook her head. “Mom, don’t you think something’s off about this? How did they know who you are, or which room you were in? I don’t think it’s safe until we find out who’s really behind this.”
Linda let out a cold laugh. “Who else would want me dead? If it’s my time, it’s my time. Don’t worry about me. You two go. Come by tomorrow–I’ll announce my will then.”
“Alright, Mom. We’ll head back,” Tyler said. “I’ll arrange for some people to keep an eye on you, just in case.”
At the doorway, Chris was squatting by the wall. When he saw Eleanor come out, he shot to his feet, his expression tangled with all sorts of emotions as he looked at her.
“Why are you still here?” Eleanor frowned.
“Did Uncle Tyler tell you? I was the one who noticed something was off. That’s why we came,” Chris said, staring straight at
her.
“Oh. So?” Eleanor replied coolly. “You really didn’t have to come. Especially you—you just get in the way.”
Chris stepped forward and grabbed her wrist. “Why do I know so little about what’s going on with you? Why did you keep things from me before?”
Eleanor yanked her hand free, almost kicked him, but thought better of it and put her foot down. “Chris, your uncle’s right here. What are you trying to do? I’m emotionally unstable. Don’t blame me if I accidentally hurt your genitals. Then again, there’s IVF.”
“Do you have to be so mean?” Chris looked crushed. “Can’t we just talk like normal people? If you hadn’t kept things from me, we wouldn’t be where we are
now.”
“What did I ever hide from you?” Eleanor shot back. “You’re the one who always thought Serena was perfect. You believed
her over me.
“My mistake was begging Tyler to make you stay. And you–what did you lose? You had women around you nonstop for seven years. I’m the one who wasted time.”

“If you’d just explain-” Chris raised his voice.

Enough” Tyler’s eyes were icy as he cut Chris off. “Chris, do you think I’m invisible? Have you considered what people would say if they saw you pestering Eleanor like this? You didn’t appreciate her when you had her, and now you’re here acting all heartbroken”
He took a step forward. “We let you have your way with the company shares, and now they’re still yours. You married the woman you chose. And now you regret it?”
