Chapter 109
Chapter 109
Hearing Serena scream, Chris got flustered. He shot a glance at Tyler sitting across from him. Just as he was about to get up, Tyler said, “Where are you going?”
Chris avoided his gazen’t you hear Serena scream?”
“I heard her,” Tyler replied. “So what? I’m not worried, so why are you?”
“It’s not the same,” Chris tried to explain, but then he froze, staring at Tyler in confusion. “Tyler, what do you mean by that?”
Tyler let out a cold laugh. “Think about it. After all these so–called accidents, do you really believe they were just coincidences?”
Chris lowered his head and clenched his fists in silence,
“You’d rather deny the truth just to protect your pathetic pride,” Tyler said coldly. “Chris, that’s sad.”
“Chris!” Serena’s voice rang out, sharp and panicked.
She came stumbling down the hallway, hair disheveled and panic written across her face. As she ran toward Chris, she fell but scrambled up again, as if something behind her terrified her beyond reason.
“Serena!”
Chris’s heart skipped a beat. He rushed forward, catching her. “What happened? Where’s Eleanor? What did she do to you?”
“I… I don’t know, I can’t remember,” Serena stammered, sounding completely lost.
“I didn’t do anything to her,” Eleanor’s voice accompanied her footsteps. “She started acting strangely the moment she entered the room–muttering to herself and then fainting.”
Chris looked at Serena’s swollen face and soaked hair. “Why does your face look like you were slapped? Why are you all wet?”
“Oh, that was me. I slapped her and threw water on her,” Eleanor said. “She was seriously freaking me out, like she was possessed or something. Maybe she’s done too many bad things.”
“I didn’t do anything!” Serena clung to Chris’s hand. “It was her! She played tricks on me!”
“I didn’t do a thing,” Eleanor shot back. “But you know what they say–if you do enough bad things, karma’s going to catch up with you. Or maybe you did this on purpose? I hadn’t even asked you anything, and you were already on the floor. I was trying to talk to you in private to save you some face, but since you want to make a scene, let’s just talk in front of everyone.”
“No!” Serena covered her ears, breaking down. “I don’t know anything!”
“Are you under too much pressure?” Eleanor said gently. “I know a great therapist. Why not go talk to her?”
“I’m not going!” Serena shouted. “Chris, it must be her! She did something to me!”
Chris looked at Serena, his expression conflicted.
“Let it go,” Tyler said, getting up,and walking over to Eleanor, taking her hand. “Maybe she’s just got something she’s hiding. That’s why she’s acting like this. No one escapes justice forever. She’ll get what’s coming to her sooner or later.”
Serena clung to Chris, shaking all over.
“Tyler, stop scaring her,” Chris said. “Maybe something freaked her out.”
“Freaked out?” Tyler scoffed. “Or maybe she’s pretending. Acting crazy so no one suspects what she knows.”

Chapter 109
Chris opened his mouth, but didn’t know what to say.
Chris led Serena back to the bedroom, then suddenly pushed her away. “There’s no one else here. Stop pretending.”
Serena shuddered. She poured herself a glass of water, gulped it down, and muttered, “She’s not human.”
Chris frowned. “Serenal Don’t talk nonsense. If Tyler hears you, he’ll scold you.”
Serena shook her head. “Maybe… maybe there’s.
comeone else’s soul inside Eleanor’s body. Otherwise, why would she scare me so much?
For a fleeting second, Chris wondered if Serena was doing this on purpose and if he’d been mistaken about Eleanor
Chris gripped Serena’s shoulders tightly. “Serena, get a hold of yourself. Do you even hear what you’re saying?”
“I’m telling the truth!” Serena clung to his hands. “You know what happened after I went into Eleanor’s room? My memory is just… blank. But I clearly remember the door was locked and the windows were shut, but in reality, everything was reversed.”
“Serena, calm down.” Chris shook her a little. “Are you
out? Did you take something? You’re not making any sense right now.

“No, I just-” Serena muttered, unsure of what she was trying t
express.
Gradually, she calmed. What exactly was she so afraid of? It was like she was possessed; she couldn’t shake the fear.
Serena looked at Chris, her voice soft. “Chris, I don’t even know what came over me just now.”
Chris was silent for a moment. “I’ll go ask.”
“Don’t.” Serena grabbed his arm. “I’m still scared.”
Chris stared at her. “Are you reall
hiding something from me?”
“No.” Serena shook her head hard. “I just… felt scared and wanted you by my side.”
“Fine,” Chris relented, but added, “But don’t ever say Eleanor isn’t human again.”
“I’m not ” Serena tried to explain, “I just-”
“That’s enough,” Chris cut her off. “She’s changed, yes, but what you said will only make people think you’re crazy.”
“… I know.” Then, as if something occurred to her, Serena’s eyes lit up and a faint smile appeared on her lips.
Chris noticed the look on her face, and for some reason, he felt a little uneasy.
“Chris, I think there’s a misunderstanding between Richard and Eleanor. I want to help them clear things up. What do you think?”
Chris stared at Serena. “You are still in contact with Uncle Richard?”
“No,” Serena quickly waved her hands. “I just think he would want to be at Eleanor’s wedding. Wouldn’t that be a good chance for them to work things
out?”
Chris was quiet for a moment, then said, “You should stay out of it.”
“Chris, it’s not what you think between me and Richard,” Serena said softly. “He’s sick. He mistook me for my mom, and when that happens, he doesn’t remember anything. I just pretended to be my mom to calm him down, but people got the wrong idea. I was scared to tell you before because I thought you wouldn’t believe me. But now, I have to say it–I’m innocent.”
Chris didn’t look happy at all. He said nothing. His face was expressionless.
“You still don’t trust me, do you?” Serena whispered, tears welling. “Eleanor doesn’t know anything. She’s doing all this on purpose.”

“Uncle Richard’s wanted by the police right now,” Chris said. “If you know anything, I hope you’ll tell them. And what about what happened to tyler and Eleanor? They almost died.”
“I don’t know, I swear.” Tears streamed down Serena’s face. “Chris, if you really think I did it, then let’s divorce.”
“Don’t say that.” Chris’s tone softened as he pulled Serena into his arms. “I’m just worried about you.”
Late at night, after Serena had fallen asleep, Chris quietly slipped out of bed and left the room. He hovered outside Tyler’s door, hesitated, then knocked
