Chapter 28 Who’s The Real Drama Queen
Eleanor had been enjoying the drama with ease when she heard what Chris was saying. She nudged Tyler and mocked, “Hey, I think someone need to see the doctor for his brain damage.”
Tyler chuckled. “Watch your words.”
Eleanor, everything you’re doing is just to make me marry you,” Chris was still going on. “Let me tell you right now–that’s never going to happen!”
Eleanor frowned. The truth was staring him in the face, she wondered. Was Chris mentally unwell? Still acting like he didn’t believe it?
But just then, Tyler’s brows drew together. He stood up.
“What are you doing?” Eleanor asked.
“Making our marriage public,” answered Tyler.
Eleanor blinked in surprise. But thinking about it, going public didn’t sound like such a
bad idea.
As she hesitated, Tyler had already strode forward and snatched the mic from Chris. ” Chris, if your eyes aren’t working, go see an ophthalmologist,” he snapped, his voice cold. “And if your brain’s messed up, see a psychiatrist. But don’t humiliate yourself here.”
“Tyler-” Chris started, but Tyler lifted the mic again.
“Whether this whole drama is real or not, one thing’s certain–the Langford family doesn’t run from responsibility. And since this marriage was brought on by a baby, we’ll go through with the wedding out of respect for the child,” explained Tyler.
“Oh, and one thing–my nephew got it wrong. After Eleanor broke up with him, she never once wanted to marry him again. Just moments ago, she proposed to me. And I said yes.
A collective gasp swept through the crowd, but Tyler decided to press on, “My mother once said that the Langford and Donovan families had a marriage agreement. But Chris hadn’t even been born yet at the time. So it makes more sense for me to fulfill it.”
Chris stood frozen. That hit him harder than the video earlier. “Tyler, what are y talking about?” he barked.

“Shut up,” Tyler shot back calmly. “You’ve broken the promise made by our grandfather and great–grandfather. Don’t you fear losing the blessings of our ancestors? I’m cleaning up your mess just sit there and watch.”
“Tyler, that’s ancient history. People make their own choices now. I get it–Eleanor
threatened you, didn’t she?” Chris’s voice rose. “You shouldn’t have agreed to this. She used to date me! I slept with her! You’ll be the laughingstock!”

“You slept with her?” Tyler’s voice turned icy, lips curling into a cold smirk.
Under Tyler’s gaze, Chris felt a chill rise from his spine. He couldn’t meet Tyler’s eyes. It was like if he did, he’d be dragged into a bottomless abyss.
“Even if I didn’t,” Chris muttered, “she’s still used goods–not worthy of you.”
“And what about you?” Tyler said slowly. “How many women have you been with? What does that make you?”
“That’s different,” Chris replied. “It’s not the same for men and women.”
“And what about her?” Tyler nointed at Serena. “Tried to play dirty and ended screwing yourself over.”
up
“I didn’t–I didn’t!” Serena said in a panic. “They only pulled my pants down–they didn’t get the chance to do anything else!”
“Oh?” Tyler sneered. “That’s not what you said back then. Want me to help jog your memory? You claimed Eleanor had sent someone to kidnap you and that you’d been assaulted. You painted such a tragic picture, my dear nephew even considered having Eleanor arrested.”
Serena’s face turned pale. “I–I was scared. I don’t remember…”
“What a pity you’re pregnant now. Otherwise, a test could’ve told us if you’re lying or not,” Tyler said coldly, then turned to Chris. “Hey Chris, good thing you were powerless back then, or you’d have made a massive mistake. Even so, I think you both owe my fiancée an apology.”
“Chris, you trust me, don’t you?” Serena instinctively clutched Chris’s hand, eyes pleading. “That video’s fake, it has to be–and the audio too! I never meant to hurt Eleanor. She’s just trying to get revenge.”
“I don’t want to make things difficult for you, Serena,” Tyler said coolly. “And I won’t hold Chris’s nonsense against him either. But I have to warn you–Chris, think before you speak. If the media gets hold of what you just said, they’ll destroy you.”
He then turned to Serena and continued. “Apologize to Eleanor. If you do, we’ll leave the past behind.”
Serena bit her lip. Tears fell down her cheeks. “Okay.”
Chris yanked her back. His eyes locked on Tyler. “Tyler, it’s different. Even if something did happen to Serena, she was forced. I can’t blame her for what others did. But Eleanor? She threw herself at people. She has no self–respect!”
“And how exactly do I have no self–respect?” A sorrowful voice rang out. Eleanor stepped forward, ignoring Linda’s attempt to stop her. “Chris, the truth is right in front, of you, but you’re blind. There were witnesses. Are you deaf too? You’ve always been blind and deaf, haven’t you? My only mistake was believing you’d come around one day. I clearly overestimated you.”

“Eleanor, I’m sorry. It was all my fault,” Serena suddenly dropped to her knees. “I was jealous of you. You’re the heiress of the Donovan family. Even when your parents. treated me better, I still envied you.”
“Of course you did,” Eleanor smiled. “You and my father’s special relationship–if I ever became like you, wouldn’t that be–well…”
She felt her mother’s warning glare. Even with all the evidence, her mother still cared about saving face. This wasn’t the time to air out everything. So, instead of revealing everything under the light, she tilted Serena’s chin with one finger and smiled lightly. Wouldn’t that be messy?”
Before Serena could response, Eleanor turned to the crowd to speak up. “Let me tell you the truth, everyone. Chris and I were childhood sweethearts. When I was little, he told me we had a marriage pact. As I got older, I poured my whole heart into him. He treated me well–until Serena showed up.”
Eyes welling with teas, she swept her gaze over the women in the audience. “Then he started nitpicking everything I did. So I tried to tone myself down, just to fit his expectations. And then I caught him kissing Serena. Tell me, ladies–would you be okay watching your fiancé or husband kiss another woman right in front of you?”
Plenty of socialites nodded and murmured in agreement. “Oh, tell me about it. I can tolerate a lot, but not that,” one said.
Another agreed. “My husband flirts, sure–but the women know their place. As long as they don’t act out in front of me, I don’t care. But if they dare to get cocky? Dead meat.”
“Are you done with talking nonsense, Eleanor?” Chris snapped.
Eleanor turned towards Chris, her gaze staring straight at him, Then, out of nowhere, slap!-she struck him across the face. “That was for what you said about me, Chris. You claim we slept together?” she retorted. “Tell me–did you ever kiss me? How many times did you even hold my hand? You said I disgusted you. That I was your maid, your burden.”
“I I
knew you’d slander me one day, so I got
paper.
This proves I’m still a virgin. If tested. Here.” She pulled out a piece of
think it’s fake, go ask my doctor.”
“You’re insane!” Chris staggered back, face pale.
Eleanor burst into loud sobs–sharp and unrestrained, in contrast to Serena’s silent tears. “What else was I supposed to do? I knew you’d use this against me! You men always get to fool around, while women have to stay pure. Was I ever cruel to you? You insulted me, belittled me why? You think I’m marrying your Tyler to get revenge? No. I‘ m doing it to protect myself.”
She wiped away her tears and kept going. “You and Serena, together–you could hurt. me again. I needed someone who could shut you both down. Besides, Tyler owed me one last favor. I asked him to marry me. What’s wrong with that?”

People in the audience nodded.
“She’s right. That video didn’t look fake. If this woman’s playing games now, she’ll keep playing them later, one agreed.
“If my fiancé tried to send me to jail? I’d dump him too and find someone who could protect me.”
From the moment Eleanor pulled out that report, Tyler’s heart ached. If it weren’t for the setting, he would’ve pummeled Chris right then and there..
“Tyler,” then, Eleanor turned to him, her eyes sparkling through tears, lips curling into a smile. “in front of all these people, I’ll ask again–will you marry me?”
