Chapter 29 His Mysterious Bride
“Of course,” Tyler gazed at Eleanor and took her hand. “I do.”
“I disagree!” Kara’s voice rang out from below. She tried to stand, but Madam Langford forced her back into the seat.
“Sit down, Kara,” said Madam Langford. “This is none of your business. If anyone should object, it should be us, the parents.”
Anxiously, Kara turned to Caden and Sir Langford. But Caden was staring blankly at
the
stage, while Sir Langford narrowed his eyes, as though watching a show.
“Tyler’s been hiding things well, right?” said Sir Langford.
Kara pinched Caden hard. “Say something!”
Caden snapped back to reality, opening his mouth, but no words came out.
“Good, I’m so glad.” Madam Langford smiled. “Finally someone is willing to take in Tyler.”
“Dear, when do you think Tyler fell for Eleanor?” Sir Langford asked her curiously.
“How would I know?” Madam Langford shrugged and answered.
Kara was getting impatient. From her point of view, Sir and Madam Langford were so desperate for Tyler’s marriage that they had forgotten all sense. She knew Eleanor must not marry Tyler.
She glanced at Linda, seeing her frown, and felt a glimmer of hope. So she hurried over. “Linda, just look at how awkward this situation is,” she muttered. “Your foster daughter is marrying my son, and your biological daughter is marrying my brother–in- law. How should we address each other when we meet from now on?”
“Why don’t you ask your son?” Linda was already upset. Hearing Kara’s question, she coldly responded, “If he hadn’t screwed things up, we wouldn’t be in this mess now.”
“Look at you, talking like that. It takes two to tango. If you hadn’t taken Serena in, none of this would have happened,” Kara replied. “Just stop shifting blame. We need to figure out how to resolve this.”
Linda shot an angry look at Richard. She believed it was all his fault. If not for hist affairs, none of this would have come up.
Family secrets are best kept hidden, so Linda swallowed her fury and turned to Kara. Don’t you know that when it comes to matters between men and women, the biggest mistake is always made by the man? Go teach your son a lesson and stop bothering me.”

“How dare you talk to me like that? I’m thinking of the family’s reputation,” Kara
retorted, upset.
“Aren’t Eleanor and Chris childhood sweethearts? Didn’t they have a marriage contract,

and how has Eleanor treated Chris?” Linda snapped. “But how has Chris treated Eleanor? Are you blind or what?”
Linda had spoken out of anger, but as the words left her lips, she recalled how, over the ve
years, Eleanor had never mentioned Chris, and there was never any smile on her face when talking about him. Linda had always put family interests first, and had been strict with Eleanor. Now, she began to doubt whether she had done the right thing.
“Isn’t it common for men to flirt with others?” Kara replied dismissively. “Do you know why Chris and Eleanor broke up? It’s just because he hugged another woman and kissed her. Eleanor knew how quickly he changes partners, but it was just for fun, so why make such a big deal of it?”
Linda was furious, but before she could speak, Kara added, “And let’s not forget the
real trigger–your adopted daughter. I didnw she had such an interesting past. If
she really marries Chris, won’t it just hurt your own daughter instead?”
Linda clenched her fists, a sharp pain shooting through her chest. Back then, they had never believed Eleanor was innocent and had covered up the affair for the sake of reputation.
She used to feel more guilty toward Serena and more resentful of Eleanor. Now, looking back, she realized the terrible decisions she had made.
But guilt aside, she could never approve of Tyler marrying Eleanor. After breaking up with Chris, Eleanor was now marrying his uncle?
Even if they were innocent, people would still say there was something going on
between them.
“We don’t care about these things. Chris aren’t afraid of gossip,” Kara continued, “But
Eleanor’s different.”
“What does that have to do with it?” Linda snapped, enraged. “Chris is nothing but a figurehead. Does he even have a say in the Langford family? He is still just following Tyler’s lead.”
“Linda, please calm down,” Kara said, trying to placate her. “What I mean is, we no longer want Serena. We want Eleanor. Doesn’t that set things right? What do you think?”
Linda sneered. “I was mistaken before, but do you think I’m going to keep making mistakes? The Langford family is one we can’t reach.”
“You-” Kara was irritated, but dared not to take her anger out on Linda. She returned to her seat, frustrated.
But when she looked back at the stage, Serena was kneeling in front of Eleanor, trembling, seemingly crying. She had no idea what had happened during her conversation with Linda.
“What’s going on?” she turned to Caden, feeling a wave of dizziness.
Caden’s face darkened. “What a disaster,” he snapped. “Tyler’s clearly doing this on

purpose–trying to humiliate us!”
Serena never imagined her wedding would end up in such a mess. She didn’t even dare to blame Tyler–he was terrifying. Just locking eyes with him sent a chill through her body. Her throat tightened. She couldn’t get a word out.
Tyler had clearly said he wouldn’t pursue it. It had to be Eleanor–she must’ve pulled some underhanded trick. Thinking of that, Serena bit her lip, swallowing her pride as she knelt before Eleanor. “I’m sorry, Eleanor. But today is my wedding… Could your please just let other things go?”
Chris stood beside her, cold and silent. He didn’t lift a finger to help Serena or say a word. Then, after what felt like forever, he turned to Eleanor with a sudden look of
realization, eyes full of contempt.
Eleanor caught his expression and gave a cold laugh. Leaning toward Tyler, she murmured, “Told you. Your nephew’s still hung up on me.”
“Well, can you blame him?” Tyler replied lazily. “You did spoil him for years. It’s hard to
shake that off.”
“Oh, so now it’s my fault?” Eleanor raised a brow.
“My stomach hurts…” Serena suddenly groaned, clutching her belly in pain.
Chris’s face drained of color. He rushed over and scooped her up, shooting a glare at Eleanor. “You think you can marry Tyler? Keep dreaming.”
Eleanor smirked. “Didn’t you hear? Tyler just agreed to marry me.”
“He’s just going along with it! You’re using the fact that he owes you to make him do whatever you want!” Chris’s voice rose with fury. “Don’t be fooled, everyone–Tyler’s just too polite to turn her down. But he’s already married! He wouldn’t get married again!”
“Oh?” Tyler smiled coolly. “So you know I’m married–but do you know who my bride is?”
