The loss of the child deeply enraged Chris. He stood there, his hands clenched into fists, his veins bulging on his forehead. “Eleanor was so ruthless that she didn’t even spare a baby,
“What right does she have to stay safe and sound in the Langford mansion? This time, no matter how much Tyler tries to stop me, I’m going to make Eleanor pay.”
Serena shook her head, tears slowly streaming down the corners of her eyes. She whispered, “No, Chris. You can’t get on Tyler’s bad side because of me. I don’t care
about these.”
“It’s my fault,” Chris said firmly. “If I hadn’t been drunk yesterday, none of this would have happened.”
“I haven’t been careful enough,” Serena murmured softly. “I should have taken better care of you like Eleanor.”
Chris sat down beside Serena and held her hand. “You don’t need to. I can take care of myself.”
Kara pushed the door open just in time to hear this. She immediately bristled. When Kara had found out that Serena wasn’t pregnant, she had been utterly shocked..
Serena had persuaded Kara. If word got out, people would ridicule Chris. But if Fl..
Eleanor:
took the blame, all fingers would point at her, and that would work in their favor.
At that moment, Kara hadn’t had time to think it through and had to agree. She had already arranged with the doctor to ensure everything would go smoothly.
However, Kara was growing increasingly resentful, thinking to herself, ‘A woman who lied about being pregnant just to marry Chris, and who can’t bring him any benefits, is nothing but a burden to him.’
“A wife is supposed to take care of her husband. If you can’t do anything right, your don‘ t deserve to be Chris’s wife,” Kara said coldly, then turned to Chris. “Chris, you have to divorce her.”
Chris was getting agitated. “Mom, Serena just lost the baby. She’s already in so much pain. Forcing us to divorce now is like pushing her into the fire. I won’t agree.”
Kara knew her son well. Chris was stubborn, so she didn’t dare reveal that Serena had never been pregnant. She felt her grievances had nowhere to go.
Serena gave Kara a triumphant glance. She had warned Kara in advance. If it were claimed that Eleanor was the cause of her miscarriage, the Langford family would
hate her.
They could use the media to keep Eleanor in the news for all the wrong reasons and even drag Tyler into it.

But if people found out that Serena had never been pregnant, they would be ruined forever.
“Indeed, Serena isn’t in a good state right now. Let’s wait until she’s better to talk about the divorce.” Kara conceded. “Seriously, Chris, I just don’t get what you see in her.” “Are you feeling unwell?” Chris, completely ignoring Kara’s words, scrutinized Serena. ” Wait here. I’ll go get the doctor for you.”
After Chris hurried out, Kara met Serena’s helpless gaze with a look of disdain. “I’ve arranged for the doctor. Let me warn you. Don’t even think about being with my son. You’re not worthy.”
A female doctor named Dora followed Chris into the ward. Upon seeing Serena sitting on the hospital bed, Dora’s expression soured instantly. “Lie down to ease the pain. If it still hurts, you can take some painkillers.”
“Doctor, how can you be so irresponsible?” Chris frowned. “She had a miscarriage. Your tone is way too harsh.”
“Miscarriage? You’ve got to be kidding me. She just had her period and is having a stomachache, Dora retorted irritably. “Rich people are so extravagant. Patients who really need surgery can’t get a bed, yet she’s occupying one just because of her period.”
Kara was stunned, thinking, “I had everything arranged. What went wrong?‘ However, -she felt a bit of relief. She had hoped Chris would find out the truth sooner.
“What nonsense are you talking about?” Chris said patiently. “She had a miscarriage, and now her stomach hurts. How can you say such irresponsible things?”
“I’m the doctor here. Are you questioning me?” Dora snapped. “She wasn’t pregnant. Do you want me to pull up her medical records for you to see?”
“Mom,” Chris said, looking at Kara, “let’s transfer to another hospital.”
“No need,” Kara said, turning to Dora. “What about the doctor from last night?
“He was found out for taking bribes and is being investigated,” Dora replied.
Kara’s face turned slightly pale. ‘He was exposed so quickly. Only Tyler has the means to do that. Could it be that Tyler already knows? It looks like we can’t frame Eleanor anymore, she thought to herself.
Kara glared at Serena viciously, thinking, “What bad luck. She’s no help at all and just causes trouble.”
“Is she checking out? Hurry up,” Dora urged. “It’s just a period. She’s acting like she’s in unbearable pain. Hey, there’s a pregnant woman in her second trimester with irregular bleeding who needs to be hospitalized for observation.
“There are no beds available, so she has to stay in the hallway.”
“What does that have to do with me?” Serena murmured. “It’s your responsibility that the hospital doesn’t have enough beds. You should expand the number of beds.

instead of blaming me.”
“Yeah, we’ve had a lot of patients. Some come in with just a minor cut on their finger and want to be hospitalized for observation.” Dora rolled her eyes. “And then there are those who, because of their period, insist on fabricating a miscarriage.
“You think any bleeding means a miscarriage, right? If you have doubts, you can get an ultrasound. The doctor will tell you. If you don’t trust modern medicine, go see a traditional healer.
“I’m a professional medical staff member. I don’t care about your personal affairs, but I can’t stand by and let you delay other patients‘ treatment.”
Kara shot Serena another glare. “What a shame.”
“Chris, maybe I was mistaken,” Serena said softly. “My period was late, and I thought I was pregnant. My stomach really hurt yesterday, and I was scared, so I thought I had a miscarriage. I’m sorry. I was wrong.”
Hearing Serena’s coquettish tone, Chris was worried.
“Don’t blame yourself. You were just too anxious. It’s better that you weren’t pregnant,” Chris said.
“But,” Serena lowered her eyes and whispered, “I posted about it on my Twitter. I’m afraid it’s already spread. People will blame Eleanor. Chris, you need to get the PR team to handle this.”
“Oh, so that’s who the news was about,” Dora said. “Don’t worry. We’ll take care of dispelling the rumors. You should check out immediately and stop occupying the bed.” Serena’s eyes widened suddenly. This was a rare opportunity to have Eleanor blamed by everyone. She didn’t want to let it go so easily.
Similar things had happened many times before. Each time, the momentum Serena had painstakingly created against Eleanor was easily defused, Although Serena was reluctant to admit it, Eleanor really had good luck.
“I want to clarify it myself,” Serena murmured. “I don’t want her to be misunderstood.”
“Please, if you have some personal grudge, deal with it on your own. You’ve already got our director suspended. Don’t cause any more trouble,” Dora snorted coldly and walked out of the ward.
Back in her office, Dora looked at the pile of takeout desserts and fruits and humphed. She picked up her phone and made a call. “I’ve done what you asked. Please, no more food deliveries while I’m at work, Miss Donovan.”
Eleanor’s lips curled into a slight smile. “Okay, Dora. Thank you.”
