Eleanor didn’t want to engage with him, but then she thought of something. She turned to Richard, pondered for a moment, and said, “I tried to talk Mom into it, but she‘ s determined to divorce you.”
“Divorce?” Richard was shocked.
“Dad, be honest. How far did things go with Serena?” Eleanor said.
“Are you trying to get me to confess?” Richard calmed down. “Don’t even think about it.”
“Dad, you’ve I
all wrong. With Tyler here, I can find out whatever I want,” Eleanor said. “You know why Mom wants to divorce you. It’s because you were involved with a minor. If Serena presses charges, you’ll spend the rest of your life in prison.”
“That’s impossible. Serena wouldn’t do that,” Richard said firmly. “I have secrets about her.”
“Secrets?” Eleanor was surprised. “Dad, you wouldn’t use those to blackmail her, would you? If you do, you’re in danger.”
“They’re mostly things that can’t be exposed to the light,” Tyler said. “Secrets that can make a girl obedient are clearly something shady. Eleanor, let’s go. The more you know, the less safe it is for you.”
“Okay,” Eleanor said, looking at Richard with sympathy. “Once you’re out of the
Donovan family, you’ll be nothing. At least Serena is Chris’s wife. No one will tolerate a scandal.”
“Why do you care about these things?” Tyler placed his hand on Eleanor’s shoulder. They just need someone to take the blame, and then they can smooth things over.”
Richard sized up Tyler and Eleanor, sensing that Tyler was very good to Eleanor. ‘I’m Eleanor’s father. Since Tyler is protecting Eleanor, even if I get divorced, I won’t have to worry about food and shelter, Richard thought to himself.
“Hey? I’m Eleanor’s father. You should take care of me,” Richard said. “Eleanor, if your mom really wants to divorce me, I’ll move in with you.”
“But I think a place where you don’t have to worry about food and shelter is more suitable for you.” Eleanor smiled. “And Serena will personally escort you there.”
“It’s almost time for our wedding gown fitting.” Tyler checked the time and took Eleanor’s hand. “Let’s not waste any more time with him.”
