Chapter 49 The Gift
Eleanor arrived at Kara’s room. “Kara, you wanted to see me?”
Kara fiddled with the ruby bracelet on her wrist. “What do you think of this bracelet? Is it pretty?”
“It’s alright,” Eleanor said.
“I got this when I first got married. Madam Langford gave it to me. It has a great luster, but I find it too heavy, so I’ve always kept it stored away. I found it while cleaning my
room.
“You’re getting married, and Madam Langford hasn’t given you a gift yet, has she?”
Kara said.
“Yes,” Eleanor replied. “I’m not really interested in jewelry.”
“Most girls love this kind of thing,” Kara said. “I think I should get something for Serena. What do you think?”
“She’d be delighted,” Eleanor said. “Serena receives a piece of jewelry every year for her birthday.”
“I see,” Kara said. “Just an adopted daughter, yet she has such a high status? No wonder you feel jealous. Actually, I can tell she’s taking something away from you.”
Eleanor looked at Kara but didn’t respond. She was curious to see what Kara was up to.
“Chris is naive; he hasn’t seen her true colors, but he’s actually the victim. Serenal
doesn’t know how to take care of him.
“I hope you can look after him,” Kara said with a smile, trying to push the ruby bracelet into Eleanor’s hands.“I’ve been with the Langford family for many years, so I naturally take care of you. If Madam Langford forgot, it’s no big deal. I’ll give you the gift on her behalf.”
“No, thank you. I don’t need the money.” Eleanor stood up and dodged. “Kara, that’s a difficult request. If you want me to take care of Chris, you first need Tyler’s approval. Otherwise, he’ll be upset.”
Kara forced a smile. “Tyler will naturally agree. Chris is his nephew.”
Eleanor shook her head vigorously. “Kara, you should discuss it with Tyler first and then talk to me. I need to be mindful of my actions. As a woman, I care a lot about my reputation.”
Kara’s smile faded, and she was clearly losing her patience.
“Kara, don’t be angry. I can expla Successfully unlocked! Chris and I never slept together. Oh, and Tyler and I haven’t slept together either. He said we should live together officially only after the wedding. So, if you don’t believe me, I can get a certificate,” Eleanor said.

“No, that’s not necessary.” Kara didn’t dare let Eleanor do that. If Tyler found out, he would definitely be more against them.
Eleanor smiled. “Kara, thank you for trusting me. You’ve really raised Chris well. He’s always been a gentleman to me. Also, on the day I broke up with Chris, I dreamed of. my grandfather.
“He scolded me for breaking my promise and worried that I would be punished. Those who break their word will end up with nothing. I had no choice but to marry Tyler.
“Kara, why do you look so pale? Don’t worry. My grandfather is very kind. If you dream
him, there’s no need to be afraid.”
“I don’t believe in that,” Kara said, her face pale. “You’re not agreeing?”
“No, I didn’t say that. I was just explaining why I married Tyler,” Eleanor said. “You should ask Tyler about it. I’ll take my leave now.”
Eleanor left the room, turned around, and saw Tyler leaning against the wall with his arms folded. “Why are you here? Were you eavesdropping?”
“Not interested,” Tyler said. “I just thought you might get bullied, but it seems I was overthinking it. Since you can handle yourself, I guess I was wrong to worry, considering how badly Chris used to bully you.”
“Just pretend I had an awakening. Eleanor said. “Only by not caring about anything can one be truly carefree. Tyler, did you hear what Kara said just now?”
“Yes.” Tyler nodded. “Leave the rest to me.”
When it was time for dinner, Kara looked at the table full of spicy dishes and frowned. ” Who made this? Don’t they know Mr. Chris can’t eat, spicy food?”
Martha looked at Kara coldly. “If it’s really a problem, you can all move out. We can live separately. Chris mentioned moving out before, right? Don’t always hang around the house.
“Learn from Tyler. He’s staying here to keep me company now, but he’ll go back to his own house eventually. It’s better to maintain some distance.”
“Mom, living together is for the convenience of taking care of each other,” Kara said. “I didn’t expect the chef to be so careless. When Eleanor was dating Chris, she used to take good care of him.
“Although they missed their chance, as an elder, Eleanor should still look after Chris.”
“Oh? What’s your opinion? Martha sneered and asked.
“It’s okay. Eleanor knows Chris’s taste preferences. If she could cook for Chris, that would be great. Chris is used to her cooking. I’m worried that he won’t get used to food prepared by others.
“Also, the matter of preparing medicine should be handed over to Eleanor. He can’t stop taking his medication,” Kara said. “Mom, you’re Chris’s grandmother; you should

support this more. Chris is your grandson, after all.”
“I’m sorry,” Serena suddenly whispered. “It’s because I’m not good enough that we’re troubling Eleanor. I was wrong.”
Chris felt heartbroken. “This has nothing to do with you. You weren’t born to serve. others.”
With a loud crash, Tyler slammed his fork down on the table. “Chris, what do you mean by that?”
Kara glared at Chris harshly, trying to smooth things over. “Chris just misspoke. Tyler, don’t take it to heart.”
“I didn’t speak out of turn,” Chris said firmly. “She didn’t know how to do those things at first. She only learned them for me. She’s a noble young lady, yet she learned to serve me. She deserves it.”
“Chris, shut up,” Martha said angrily. “You all better not try to force me with various excuses. Everything is your own doing. Besides, even if Eleanor were to take care of someone, she should prioritize her parents and us first.
“After that, she should be responsible for taking care of Tyler. Other people have nothing to do with her. Serena, since you married Chris, you should take care of him. Don’t you understand these rules?”
“I’m sick,” Serena whispered. “I’m afraid I might hurt Chris when I have an episode.”
“If you’re sick, go to the hospital,” Martha sneered. “We can afford the medical bills.”
“Grandma, Serena got sick because of Eleanor. There’s nothing wrong with letting. Eleanor take care of me,” Chris said loudly.
Kara pressed her hand to her temple and gently massaged it. She hadn’t expected her son to be so foolish.
Chris had been sweating with stomach pain during their discussion yesterday: otherwise, Kara wouldn’t have brought it up.
“What are you trying to do?” Martha said angrily. “Arthur, I think we really need to separate households. I don’t want to see them anymore.”
“Alright, whatever you say,” Arthur said. “Don’t be angry.
“Mom, I think there’s another reason they dare to step on Eleanor,” Tyler said. “Since Eleanor came into the family, you haven’t given her anything. That’s why they think she‘ s easy to bully.”
“My bad memory.” Martha shook her head, took a diamond bangle off her wrist, and handed it to Eleanor. “This is the Langford family’s heirloom bracelet. Eleanor, it’s yours.
