Chapter 56 Apology
Meeting Tyler’s eyes filled with concern, Eleanor smiled. “I’m fine. I made it out safely.”
Tyler glanced up at the second floor of the villa, feeling a shiver of fear. “You climbed down from such a height?”
“There was no other way out. We would have just waited to die inside,” Eleanor said. Fortunately, he didn’t expect me to escape like that; otherwise, he would have definitely tried to block the windows.”
“He?” Tyler’s brows furrowed. “Your father?”
“Yes,” Eleanor said with a touch of self–mockery. “My father is rather ruthless.”
Tyler gazed at Eleanor. Despite what had just happened, Eleanor didn’t seem very frightened and still had her usual calm demeanor.
The black marks on Eleanor’s cheeks and nose were evident. Tyler wiped them off vigorously and then pulled Eleanor into a tight embrace, whispering, “You really scared me just now.”
“I’m fine,” Eleanor said. “I’m standing right here, safe and sound.”
“You and Mrs. Donovan should go to the hospital and get checked out,” Tyler said. “I’ve already called the police.”
Linda had been observing Tyler since the beginning, taking in the concern on his face.
Previously, because she was angry, Linda hadn’t paid much attention to what Tyler’s true intentions were in marrying Eleanor. Since Eleanor was disobedient, Linda had decided to let her be.
But now, Linda felt that perhaps everything had been part of Tyler’s meticulous plan.

“You seem to care a lot about Eleanor,” Linda said. “I was s
and never had the chance to have a proper talk with you.”
“Mom, there’s no need to talk about anything now,” Eleanor interjected. “With Tyler, I won’t suffer,”
“Yes, even if one day I have nothing left, I won’t let Eleanor go hungry,” Tyler said.
“It seems that divorcing you two wouldn’t be appropriate then,” Linda said. “My judgment of people isn’t very good, and I worry that my daughter, following in my footsteps, might have the same poor judgment.”
Tyler smiled. “You’re right. Eleanor’s judgment of people isn’t very good either. Although Chris is from my family must be honest

Eleanor frowned. “Mom, why are you asking this?”

“You keep quiet,” Linda said sternly. “There’s no one else here. Tell me, why?”
Tyler paused for a moment and said, “She’s a good person, and Chris wronged her. The Langford family was in the wrong first. I’m of marriageable age, and she’s just right.”
“Is that all?” Linda said. “But there was a young man who told me he likes Eleanor and that if he could marry her, he would give her the best life possible.
Tyler probably guessed who it was. He clenched his fists, and a cold glint flashed in his eyes. “Mrs. Donovan, you mustn’t easily believe someone who says that.
“Everyone can speak sweet words. Who knows how they will actually act? People who make promises too easily are often the least trustworthy.”
“How am I supposed to trust you then?” Linda said. “I won’t say anything else. Just tell me directly. Do you like Eleanor or not?”
“Mom, stop asking,” Eleanor said. “You’re forcing the answer. Only a fool would say no. Rest assured. We have an agreement. If he betrays me, all his assets will be mine.”
“Would he really sign such an agreement?” Linda looked skeptical. “Eleanor, don’t deceive me. After what just happened, don’t you understand? Don’t place all your hopes on a man.”
“Mom, the agreement is real, and it has been notarized at the notary office, Tyler said. ” Words are cheap; actions speak louder. Since I dared to sign it, I certainly won’t do anything to break my word.”
Linda looked at Tyler skeptically and suddenly took Eleanor’s hand. “When you have time, you and Tyler should go see a movie. It’s about a man who killed his wife for her inheritance.
Eleanor glanced at Tyler, a meaningful smile playing on her lips.
Tyler let out a soft sigh. “Why not go to the hospital for a check–up first?”
He paused, then added, “I’ve never bought insurance for anyone. Only incompetent fools would think of getting rich that way.”
Linda looked at Tyler thoughtfully
“I’ll go get the car, Tyler said.
Linda held onto Eleanor. “He reminds me of Chris from a long time ago. But people do change.”
People indeed changed. But Eleanor felt that Tyler wouldn’t. Strangely, she just trusted him.
“Mom, he’s not like Chris,” Eleanor said. “But I won’t put all my heart into a man.”
“Are
you comfortable with him?” Linda asked.
“Of course,” Eleanor replied. “At least I don’t feel sad or upset. Maybe I’ve just become

numb.”
Linda sighed. “Eleanor, I’m sorry.”
Eleanor was surprised. She looked at her mother; the old Linda would never apologize, yet today, Linda had said sorry multiple times.
“It will take some time to repair the house,” Eleanor said. “You can stay with me for
now.”
“No, I’ve always wanted to get a medical check–up. I’ve been busy with work and never had the time. This is a good opportunity to take care of myself,” Linda said. “When do you and Tyler plan to have the wedding? Are you pregnant?”
“We haven’t slept together. It would be strange if I were pregnant,” Eleanor laughed.” The wedding? He’s arranging it. I don’t worry about that. Mom, will you forgive Serena?”
Linda pressed her hand to her temple and gently massaged it. “Don’t mention her in
front of me.
At the hospital, after a series of checks, they found that aside from some minor injuries, they were otherwise fine.
“From now on, you must not do anything so dangerous again,” Tyler said sternly, his heart finally relaxing.
“know,” Eleanor replied.
She had actually been wanting to try out the skills taught to her by the neighbor madam next to her grandmother’s house during her childhood, and also the stiletto dagger.
But the madam had warned Eleanor that martial arts were for fitness, not for fighting
or showing off.
Tyler, seeing Eleanor’s nonchalant attitude, knew she hadn’t taken it to heart.
“Eleanor, what happened to you? You scared me to death,” a coquettish voice came -through, and a figure lunged forward. Just as it was about to collide with Eleanor, Tyler
reached out and blocked it, pushing the person away.
“Angust, what are you doing here?” Tyler said.
Angust rolled his eyes. “Eleanor, I heard you were in trouble, so I came to check on you. Besides, I wasn’t the only one who came.
As Angust finished speaking, Serena walked over and timidly called out, “Mom?”
