Chapter 61 Confession
Chapter 61 Confession
Eleanor was still in a daze, and it took a few calls from Tyler for her to snap back to reality. “What?” she asked.
Tyler’s heart was pounding, but he tried to sound calm. “I said I like you. What do you think about that?”
“Oh, that’s nice,” Eleanor replied. “But I never saw it coming before.”
“I didn’t want to make things awkward for you, Tyler explained.
“No wonder you were so caring before. I thought it was because I saved your life, Eleanor muttered. ‘But wait, if you liked me, why didn’t you say anything when I married you?”
“I was afraid that if I told you, you wouldn’t go through with the marriage, Tyler said. ‘And I wasn’t sure that everything would go as I planned.”
“What if I had really married Chris? Would you have just done nothing?” Eleanor asked.
Tyler paused for a moment. “I don’t know. But I knew you two would break up eventually”
“There’s another thing,” Eleanor said. “That wedding gown? Did you prepare it for me?”
“Actually, when you came to me over the Serena issue, I had an impulse to marry you right then. But reason prevailed in the end, Tyler said. “When Chris rejected your request, I was furious. So I had the wedding gown made. As an elder of the Langford family, I planned to organize the wedding myself. If I were paying for it, I’d have the final say on how it was done.”
Eleanor picked up her straw and sucked hard on her latte. ‘Strange, it tastes different from usual. There’s too much sugar in it, and it’s overly sweet, she thought to herself.
“Between you and Chris, I didn’t scheme anything. I just didn’t actively do anything or stop Serena’s actions, Tyler said. “I did nothing, but in a way, I did something. I hope you understand what I mean.”
“I understand.” Eleanor nodded. “You’ve been waiting for the right opportunity. But why did you finally decide to tell me that you like me?”
Tyler clenched his fists. “If I didn’t say it now, someone else might take advantage of the situation. I don’t want to regret not speaking up.”
Eleanor stayed silent, and seeing that she wasn’t responding, Tyler grew anxious. A hint of unease flickered in his eyes, and he kept opening and closing his mouth, wanting to say something but holding back.
“Tyler, if you had told me earlier, I probably wouldn’t have believed you anyway,” Eleanor said. “But if you had spoken up sooner, our relationship could have advanced much faster.”
“What do you mean?” Tyler asked.
“Tyler, you were always worried that I’d be angry if I knew. But why would I be angry?” Eleanor said. “Even if you had done something, Chris would have noticed. He made his choice.
“I’m relieved to be away from him. You like me. I should be happy. Why would I be angry?”
Tyler’s heart settled, but soon he grew nervous again.
“But I am a little angry,” Eleanor continued. “Why did you wait so long to tell me? If you had made a move when I was younger, I could have avoided so many detours.”
“My father and your grandfather were friends, and I’m of the same generation as your parents. Even though I’m only five years older than you, it wouldn’t have been appropriate,” Tyler said. “Besides, when I asked you as a child, you cried and refused.”
“I refused? I don’t remember that,” Eleanor said, surprised.
“Your mother was there at the time. You can ask her,” Tyler said, lowering his eyes with a hint of sorrow. “Back then, I was ridiculed by the adults for a long time.”
Tyler spoke earnestly, and Eleanor couldn’t help but feel a flicker of doubt. ‘Could it be that Tyler is telling the truth?‘ s. thought to herself.
“Wait a minute,” Eleanor said, pulling out her phone.
She called Linda. “Mom, I have a question for you. Did I ever reject Tyler’s marriage proposal when I was a child?”
“You were a child? No such thing,” Linda replied.
Eleanor let out a sigh of relief and glared at Tyler fiercely.
“Oh, I remember now. There was one time. You were five, and Tyler was ten. You were playing house, and you needed a groom. Chris refused, and Tyler happened to be nearby, so you dragged him over to play the groom,” Linda recounted
Eleanor blinked and looked at Tyler. She had completely forgotten.
After a moment of reminiscing, Linda continued, “Tyler asked you if you could play the game, but only if you promised to be

his bride when you grew up. You said no, that you were going to marry Chris because he was Chris’s uncle
“Everyone there laughed when you said that. Tyler probably felt embarrassed and refused, which made you cry loudly He had no choice but to agree to your demand to stop your tears.
“If you hadn’t mentioned it, I would have forgotten about it, too. Did Tyler bring this up to you?”
“Mom, let’s talk more when I come to see you, Eleanor said, hanging up the phone and feeling the intense gaze from across the table.
There was no way to avoid it. Eleanor exhaled sharply and looked at Tyler ‘Did i really reject you when I was a kid?” “Yeah, and you did it so decisively that it left a big shadow over me, Tyler said.
“It was just a child’s game. Why did you take it seriously?” Eleanor clasped her hands together. I’m sorry Why are you holding a grudge against a five–year–old?”
“I’m not holding a grudge. It’s just that even at five, you knew you couldn’t marry someone from a different generation. You d think the same way when you grew up,” Tyler explained. “I was scared, too.”
“You can’t blame me. I didn’t think that much back then. I just felt I had to marry a boy around my age, Eleanor laughed. “f our families didn’t know each other, we’d be a good match in age. So-”
Eleanor trailed off, feeling a bit incoherent and unsure how to continue. Under Tyler’s gaze, she felt a bit uneasy. Something felt off.
She had been the one to whom Tyler had confessed, yet now it felt like she was the one who had done something wrong. Eleanor slapped the table. “Tyler, what are you really trying to do?”
Suddenly, a courier walked over with a bouquet of roses. “Mrs. Langlord? Someone sent these for you.”
“Sent to me?” Eleanor took the flowers.
“Someone sent you flowers,” Tyler remarked.
“Don’t get the wrong idea,” Eleanor said, glancing at the card. It was from Tyler. ‘So why has he just spoken with that questioning tone?‘ she wondered.
Before she could confront him, Tyler’s voice reached her ears. “Eleanor, I like you. Even though it’s long overdue. Accept these flowers, and you’re agreeing to be with me for the rest of your life.”
“Hey, are you joking?” Eleanor glared at Tyler. “Did you really mean everything you just said?”
