Chapter 68 Here To Argue?
Angust stared hard at Tyler. “What’s it to you whether they contacted me?”
“Haven’t you heard?” Tyler countered. “Your mother and I, well, we haven’t met face–to–face, but we know of each other. We had a chat, figured we should meet up sometime. And while we were at it, I brought up a little something.”
Angust looked wary. “What did you do?”
Tyler nodded. “Ah, so you really are out of the loop. Alright, I’ll spell it out. That script you wrote? Pretty decent, actually. I discussed it with your mother, and she agreed… having you as the lead, getting too close to Eleanor on set… probably not the best idea.”
Angust’s eyes narrowed. “It’s just acting. Seriously? Besides, reading scripts, memorizing lines… you got time for that?”
“You make time,” Tyler replied smoothly. “Gotta try, right? But hey, out of respect for you, you can take the second lead. Avoids any… potential misunderstandings.”
“What misunderstandings?” Angust demanded.
“You do know you’re getting engaged, right?” Tyler pressed. “Is your fiancée the understanding type? My Eleanor isn’t one for drama, and I wouldn’t want her getting caught in the middle if things got awkward. Oh, right. Your fiancée? She’s heading this way soon.”
A flicker of unease crossed Angust’s face. “Who’s coming?”
“Your fiancée,” Tyler grinned. “Your mother arranged it.”
Angust muttered a curse under his breath. Tyler continued, “Oh, and I sent all your hotel charges over to your mother. She settled up immediately. Judging by her tone, though… someone’s about to get an earful.”
“You bastard, Tyler!” Angust jabbed a finger towards him, furious. “You’re doing this deliberately just to screw with me, aren‘ t you?”
“Nope. Just tying up loose ends,” Tyler said coolly. “You’ve been living it up on my dime. I’m not running a soup kitchen.” “Eleanor, see? He’s a total snake!” Angust turned to Eleanor, his tone pleading. “He went back on his word! When he kicked me out, he said my stay here was covered!”
“I said I’d cover the room,” Tyler corrected him smoothly. “Maybe you misunderstood the scope. Basic room and board, sure. But the personal training sessions, the spa days… you went all out. I can’t bankroll that lifestyle.”
“Cheapskate. Just admit it instead of making excuses,” Angust retorted. “Eleanor, see? If he can flip–flop on this, you can’t trust him on anything.”
Eleanor spoke up. “Actually, Angust, I think you’re off base here. Maybe you’re just used to having everything handed to you, so it doesn’t seem like a big deal. But I agree, you can’t just expect a free ride for everything. His money is basically our money now. If he takes a hit, I take a hit.”
Angust stared, wide–eyed. “Eleanor, how can you side with him? You just got out of a bad situation because you were too trusting! Are you seriously going down that road again?”
“What does that have to do with anything?” Eleanor countered. “We’re getting married. Our finances are becoming joint finances. It’s about partnership.”
“Eleanor, I don’t think that’s smart,” Angust argued. “Even when you’re married, finances should be separate. Keep your own money, spend your own money. Splitting things fifty–fifty, that works for everything.”
Hearing this, Tyler chuckled softly.
Angust bristled. “What’s so funny? A guy only says ‘my money is your money‘ when he wants to control you. Eleanor, isn’t that what your ex tried to pull?”
“No,” Eleanor replied quietly. “I never took a cent from him. If anything, I was the one paying sometimes.”
“Oh.” Angust was silent for a moment. “Well, that just proves it even more, doesn’t it? You absolutely should keep your finances separate.”
“So, is that how you treat your fiancée?” Tyler asked.
“Yeah, I don’t spend money on women,” Angust said. “But I don’t let them spend on me either. Eleanor, guys who expect you to pay for them, or the ones who promise the moon saying they’ll take care of you – neither type is trustworthy. Marriage is a partnership; you both have to stand on your ex feet f

Eleanor nodded. “You’ve got a point, but if he got debt,
for it too, right?”
“Then just get divorced,” Angust countered. “Look, when things get tough, people bail. Everyone looks out for number one. There’s nothing wrong with being a little selfish, Eleanor.”
*So that’s the kind of guy you are,” Tyler said, his eyes narrowing slightly. “Pretty cold.”

“Am I wrong, Tyler?” Angust shot back. “If you hit rock bottom, would you really drag Eleanor down with you? Wouldn’t it be better to let her go? That’s what I’d do.”
“So, for you, it’s only ‘for better, never ‘for worse,” Tyler stated flatly.
“Damn right,” Angust said. “I wouldn’t make someone I care about suffer with me. Nobody wants a hard life.”
Tyler retorted, “That’s just sad. Sounds like you don’t have any real friends then.”
“Sister, you have shared the joys and sorrows before, what did you get?” Angust Marlov said, “The other party didn’t treat you sincerely either. I think genes are inherited. Their whole family is not to be trusted.”
Tyler gave a humorless smile. “You seem to think you know me so well. Personally, I think a guy who ignores his own fiancée to chase other women, then claims she wasn’t ‘the one‘ anyway? That’s way worse.”
The air in the room crackled with tension.
Eleanor picked up on the hostility. “Tyler,” she cut in, “did you come here to debate philosophy or talk about the script? Because I don’t think you came here just to fight.”
“Things just got a little heated,” Tyler said smoothly. “Angust, maybe you and I should discuss the script privately?” “Who said we were hitting it off?” Angust snapped. “I finally get a chance to work with Eleanor, and you show up just to mess things up.”
“To avoid any awkwardness,” Tyler replied. “Like I said, I don’t want my Eleanor getting taken advantage of. I trust you, of course, Angust. You’re a stand–up guy. But the people around you? Maybe not so much.”
“She really does hate it when I’m around other women,” Angust muttered under his breath.
“I’ll always make time to make sure my family is safe,” Tyler stated firmly. “Whatever Eleanor wants to do, I’ll back her up. And as for who pays for what? Let me be clear- what’s mine is hers.”
Angust crossed his arms. “Scripts can be rewritten, you know. What if I decide the lead guy doesn’t get a happy ending? You still want the part?”
“The script is fiction. Life is real. They’re two different things,” Tyler said calmly. “Change it however you want. That’s your call. How I live my life? That’s mine.”
