Chapter 80 No Way She’s Apologizing
Eleanor chuckled. “Your story’s all over the place, and now you want to drag Mom into this? How about you start by
explaining why Angust’s fiancée slapped you.”
“It’s because of you, Serena snapped, pointing at Eleanor. “She mistook me for you.”
“Is that so?” Eleanor let out a cold laugh. “Then here’s another question–what were you doing with Angust in the first place?” “… I just wanted to talk to him about my dreams, Serena stammered. “You ruined erything for me.”
“Oh, I see. So, you’re saying Angust’s fiancée just randomly decided to blame you, huh?” Eleanor said. “That’s easy to fix. I’ll help you get justice. Let’s go find them.”
“Let’s not, Serena mumbled, her voice barely audible. “It’s just a little misunderstanding. I can take it. After all, I’m innocent. But if you get involved, Eleanor, things will really get messy.”
Kara shot Serena a sharp look. “Watch your words. If people hear you talking like that, who knows what they’ll think.”
“But I’m not wrong.” Serena muttered. “If it weren’t for all this, why would I have been slapped?
“Eleanor, Angust’s fiancée already came looking for you, convinced there’s something going on between you two. She’s a famous actress with a massive fanbase. If you provoke her fans, it won’t end well for you.”
Kara snapped, “Don’t make baseless accusations. Back then, Eleanor was head over heels for Chris. There’s no way she had eyes for anyone else. And even if she slips up now, Tyler’s still around, isn’t he?”
Eleanor smiled. “You’ve always been the sensible one, Kara. Not like some people, who just love to jump to conclusions.”
“I didn’t mean it like that,” Serena said, her voice tinged with grievance. “Eleanor, Angust even mentioned taking you to the movies. Did you agree to it?”
“I have no idea,” Eleanor replied. “Why don’t I just call him? I’ll ask why Lila slapped you while I’m at it. Once we’ve got the facts straight, we can go to Mom. Didn’t you just say you wanted her to step in for you?”
Eleanor dialed Tyler’s number and switched to speaker mode as soon as the call connected. “Angust, I heard you’re trying to win me over and take me to the movies? And now your fiancée mistook Serena for me and hit her? Is that true?”
“It’s all a misunderstanding. I was about to call and apologize when your call came in. I accidentally bumped into Serena, and it caused a misunderstanding. It has nothing to do with you,” said Angust.
“Oh, I see.” Eleanor ended the call. She turned to Serena. “So, how do you explain this?”
Serena’s face turned pale, her fists clenched tightly. “What’s there to explain? Lila thought I was you, that’s all.”
*She thought you were me and just went for a slap? That doesn’t sound like something she’d do out of nowhere.”
Serena wasn’t about to admit what she had said to provoke Lila. She bit her lip and retorted, “If you’re set on blaming me, what can I say? Fine, Eleanor, it’s all my fault. Satisfied?” With that, Serena burst into tears and fled the room.
Eleanor watched Serena’s figure retreat, a faint smirk of mockery playing on her lips. Just as she was about to leave, Kara stepped in her way, blocking her path.
“Kara, what’s this about? Are you here to stand up for your daughter–in–law?” Eleanor asked.
“I’m just giving you a little reminder,” Kara said. “Tyler is extremely possessive.”
“Thanks for the heads–up, Kara,” Eleanor replied with a faint smile.
“And one more thing…” Kara’s expression darkened, her words slow and deliberate. “Even if Chris ends up regretting it, you‘ re already with his uncle now. You don’t get to crawl back.”
Eleanor raised an eyebrow, her gaze sharp and incredulous. “Kara, do you even hear yourself right now?”
“You know exactly what I mean,” Kara said, her eyes locked on Eleanor. “Promise me you’ll stay away from Chris for good.” “Kara, let’s not kid ourselves–your son isn’t exactly a prize. Tyler is miles ahead of him. Chris made his own choices, and whether they lead to success or failure, no one else is obligated to clean up after him.”
Eleanor had just returned to her room when she heard a series of urgent knocks on the door. When she opened it, she found Chris standing there, his face full of anger. With a cold expression, she said, “What’s your problem, Chris?” Chris glared at her, his face twisted with disgust. “Just because you saved me once doesn’t mean you can go around hurting Serena however you like.”
Leaning casually against the doorframe, Eleanor looked at him with a calm, almost amused demeanor. “What nonsense are you spouting now?
“Oh, by the way, it looks like Vera’s kick from before has finally healed. If you keep running your mouth, I wouldn’t mind giving you a refresher.”

Chris instinctively stepped back, his guard up. “You’re impossible. You all have always been bullying Serena. That’s why she had no choice but to fake saving me–she needed someone to protect her.”
“And then?”
Chris hesitated, recalling the sight of Serena earlier–bruised, crying, and full of guilt. After pressing her for answers, he’d learned what had happened. Fueled by anger, he had stormed over to confront Eleanor without thinking it through.
In his head, it was simple–Eleanor had messed with Serena again. All she had to do was apologize, and that’d be the end of it.
“You’re still as arrogant and unreasonable as ever,” Chris said, his voice dripping with disdain. “Serena made one mistake, and you just won’t let it go, will you?
“She’s already explained everything to me about what happened back then. You all looked down on her and bullied her, so she had to find someone to stand up for her.”
“Okay,” Eleanor replied flatly, offering no further comment.
For a moment, Chris was at a loss for words. He felt like he was punching a pillow–his anger meeting nothing but emptiness.
“She faked saving you because she needed a protector. She kissed you behind my back because she liked you. She traveled all the way back here, knowing you were about to get engaged, just to throw herself at you.
“Such devotion–I could never compete with that level of passion,” Eleanor said with a mocking smile. “In your eyes, she’s perfect, isn’t she? Even when she’s wrong, it’s always someone else’s fault. So, why are you here? Does my opinion even matter?”
“Because of you,” Chris said coldly, “she lost her father and became the target of your mother’s hatred. Don’t you think your revenge has gone too far? She could’ve had a happy family.”
Eleanor chuckled. “Oh?”
Chris frowned, momentarily at a loss for words in the face of Eleanor’s indifference. “I know you married Tyler just to get back at me. Deep down, you prefer Angust, but he can’t give you what you’re after.
“I want you to apologize to Serena, convince your mom to let her stay with the Donovan family, and apologize to Lila while you’re at it.”
“So, now everything’s my fault?” Eleanor’s smile was icy. “Apologize? Not happening.”
“I’m saying this for your own good,” Chris said. “Before things spiral completely out of control.”
“Then let’s see how it all unfolds,” Eleanor replied coolly. She turned and walked into her room, slamming the door shut
behind her without hesitation.
Chris clenched his fists. A chill ran down his spine as he felt a piercing gaze on him. Turning around, he saw Tyler standing a short distance away.
