Chapter 91 Get Ready For A Lawsuit
Meeting Tyler’s eyes, Eleanor paused to think, then said, “Loving someone with no reservations just isn’t possible for me anymore.
“But honestly, you’re a great guy. Especially after finding out you’ve liked me for so long. Still, if your feelings for me are a nine out of ten, I can only give you an eight and a half.”
A flicker of something unreadable crossed Tyler’s face. After a long moment, he said. in a low voice, “As long as you don’t hate me, that’s good enough for me.”
“And one more thing–are we picking up where we left off last time? Isn’t this the kind of thing guys do to show they’re in charge?”
Tyler met her eyes–open, blunt, totally unbothered talking about sex–and for a second, he actually felt a little thrown off. “Who told you that?”
“Vera,” Eleanor replied. “She once asked if Chris and I had ever kissed, slept together,
stuff like that.
“She said if a guy doesn’t want to touch a girl, it means he doesn’t really care. But she also said Chris at least had some conscience and didn’t just act on impulse.
“Personally, I think he was just saving himself for Serena. Which, well, kind of proves. what I said earlier–this is the kind of thing guys do to show they’re in charge.”
Tyler pressed his hand to his lips and gave a small cough. “For someone who’s never had sex, you sure seem to know a lot.”
“Actually, Vera even has a handbook about this stuff, but I figured I wouldn’t need it, so I didn’t take it,” Eleanor said. “You still haven’t answered me–are we picking up where
we left off last time?”
Tyler looked straight at her. “No, let’s wait until after the wedding. No more surprises.”
“OK.” Eleanor let out a long sigh of relief. Good thing Angust had walked in when he did. Now that she’d had a minute to cool off, the rush of emotion hit her in hindsight.
She was about to marry Tyler. Tyler had said he liked her. That part hadn’t changed. But the fact that a few words could shake her that easily… that scared her. She didn’t want to go through that kind of heartbreak all over again.
Angust had said something to Lila in private, and after that, Lila asked to talk to Eleanor alone. During that conversation, Lila said something that stuck–When men got what they wanted too easily, they lost interest just as fast.
Lila said, “It’s smarter to hold back, to pull away just enough so they stay curious. Act
too eager, and it overwhelms them.” Honestly, the more Eleanor thought about it, the more she had to admit–Lila wasn’t wrong.

Seeing the relief on Eleanor’s face, a shadow of disappointment flashed across Tyler’s features. But he quickly let it go–there’d be time. No need to rush.
“There’s something I want to tell you,” Tyler said. “I’m not telling you this because I expect you to respond right away, or because I want you to feel grateful and make a decision.
“I just want you to know, I’ve liked you for a long time. I’ve waited this long, so waiting a bit more is no big deal.”
Eleanor looked at Tyler. That face of his–chiseled, clean, almost too perfect–it was the kind of look that could mess with a woman’s heart. And now, with everything he was saying… it was getting harder and harder not to feel something. “I know,” Eleanor said.
The room went quiet for a moment, but then Eleanor’s phone rang, breaking the silence. It was a call from Vera. Vera had been caught up with bidding stuff lately, so she and Eleanor hadn’t talked much.
As soon as she answered, Vera’s voice came through, shaky and on the verge of tears. “Eleanor, can you come pick me up?”
Eleanor immediately sensed something was wrong. After getting the address, she turned to Tyler and said, “Something’s happened to Vera. I’m going to her.”
Tyler glanced outside–it was already getting dark. “It’s not safe for you to go out alone at night. I’ll go with you.”
Eleanor didn’t object. “Alright.”
They arrived at the Majestic Bar, and Eleanor found the room Vera had told her about. Just as she was about to push open the door, old memories flooded her mind, impossible to shake off.
Eleanor closed her eyes. She’d nearly forgotten what happened at that bar back in college, but after Serena brought it up again, everything came rushing back.
Out of nowhere, fear crept in–as if the moment she opened that door, the whole nightmare might play out all over again.
Suddenly, she was pulled into a warm embrace, Tyler’s hand covering hers. His voice sounded softly by her ear. “Don’t be scared. I’m right here.”
“OK.” Eleanor nodded. She thought, ‘That old fear… it really has a way of creeping back in.’ Eleanor pushed open the door and froze. Vera was slumped on the sofa, her clothes a mess, while Logan stood nearby, shirtless and looking frustrated.
“You two…” Eleanor stepped forward, staring at Vera’s disheveled state. “Did he force himself on you?”

“I don’t know.” Vera shook her head. “He said he wanted to talk, but after I had a drink, I blacked out. I can’t remember anything.”
When Eleanor looked his way, Logan blurted out, panicked, “I have no idea what happened either, but I’ll take responsibility.”
From outside came the sound of people talking. “The Monroe Group heiress caught in a scandal–this is headline news.”
Vera’s face went pale as she clutched her clothes tighter around herself.
“Tyler-” Before Eleanor could say another word, the door burst open again and a swarm of reporters rushed in.
“Miss Monroe, it’s really you. And that’s your best friend, Miss Donovan, right?” A reporter turned to Vera. “We got an anonymous tip–said back in college, Miss Donovan was set up by her roommate and lost her virginity at a bar.
“Ever since, she’s been emotionally unstable.” He then turned on Eleanor. “Miss Donovan, did you do this to frame Miss Monroe? Or are you just here for the drama?”
Eleanor was just about to snap when someone suddenly grabbed her wrist.
Vera straightened her clothes, her earlier panic completely gone. She pulled Eleanor behind her and faced the reporters. “You guys just love to stir up drama, don’t you? So what if I’ve been single for a while and wanted to have a little fun?
“And who’s this anonymous tipster? Bring them out here. What, didn’t they tell you? Eleanor’s already married to Tyler Langford. You know who Tyler is, right? Are you sure you want to mess with him and risk your careers?
“She turned to Tyler. “Tyler, they’re openly picking on your wife–are you just going to stand there and watch?”
“I need to keep evidence of who’s so righteously spreading rumors.” Tyler put his phone away and walked over. “I’ve already recorded everything.”
“No, you’ve got it wrong. We just got an anonymous call telling us to come here at this time,” one reporter said.
“The stuff about Mrs. Langford came from that person, too,” said another.
Someone chimed in, “We swear we won’t say a word about any of this. That person said they’d show up, but it’s weird–they’re nowhere to be seen.”
“Mrs. Langford, it wasn’t you, was it? Did you want your friend to go through what you did, just because you suffered before?” one of the reporters asked.
“Didn’t you hear what I just said?” Tyler’s icy gaze swept over the group. “Go ahead and wait for the lawsuit.”
Intimidated by Tyler’s presence, the reporters exchanged nervous glances, hurriedly

apologized, and scrambled to leave.
“Eleanor, you went through something like that?” Once the reporters were gone, Vera’s tough exterior faded, and her eyes filled with tears again. “Tyler, I’m telling you, you can‘ t just turn your back on Eleanor because of this.”
Tyler let out a cold snort and looked away.
“What kind of attitude is that?” Vera shot back. “There’s no way Eleanor would just go to a bar and act wild on her own. Someone must’ve set her up.”
Tyler finally spoke, “You’re that sure? So do you actually believe what those people just
said?”
“I’m not stupid. It’s obvious their real target wasn’t me,” Vera said. “Who else could be that shameless besides Serena?”
“I’m sorry,” Eleanor whispered. “I didn’t think it through, and I dragged you into this.”
“This isn’t your fault,” Vera said to Eleanor. She then walked right up to Logan and slapped him. “You’re the only one who’s close to them. Did you really think you could set me up?”
