Chapter 93 Too Scared To Admit It
Martha’s eyes sparkled with mischief as she glanced between Tyler and Eleanor, giving Arthur’s arm a playful pat. “Ah, youth really is something else.”
Eleanor shot Tyler a glare. Yeah, they were sharing a bed now–but kissing was as far as things had gone.
Chris watched them, a mess of emotions churning inside. He thought, ‘Childhood sweethearts, together for seven years… Can feelings really just change like that?‘ Eleanor rubbed her arm. After working on that proposal all night, her hand ached from gripping the mouse, and her elbows were sore from pounding the keyboard. Her client was so impatient–otherwise, she wouldn’t have had to pull an all–nighter.
Noticing Eleanor massaging her arm, Tyler reached over and started tapping and rubbing it for her. “Your arms really put in overtime last night.”
The room went quiet again. It took Eleanor a second to realize what Tyler meant. She thought, ‘Is this really the same Tyler I used to know? Since when did he start saying stuff like that–so bold, like it’s nothing?‘
Chris’s face grew even darker, but with Tyler right there, he could only grit his teeth and hold it in.
Kara let out a cold snort. “Shameless.”
“If I had more money, you wouldn’t have to mess with time zones and chase after clients for business. You wouldn’t be pulling all–nighters to put together proposals just because they asked. The reason you’re sleep–deprived? That’s on me,” Tyler continued. Then he glanced at Kara. “Kara, did you just call that shameless? Since when is working one’s butt off something to be ashamed of? Maybe you and your daughter–in- law just don’t get how satisfying it can be.”
Kara clenched her fists, unable to fire back, and turned her anger on Serena. “You two grew up in the same place, so why are you so different? Didn’t you used to like the same stuff?”
Eleanor chimed in, “People’s tastes change. If something rubs me the wrong way, I just stop liking it. The only thing I keep liking is something with real substance.”
Chris cut in, “One can’t compare people. Eleanor, nothing ever happened between us when we dated–not just because I couldn’t stand you, but also because back in college, you were so reckless you didn’t even know who you lost your virginity to.”
He then turned to Tyler. “Tyler, if you want a divers don’t wait.”
Successfully unlocked!
“Oh, really?” Kara put on a look of Supy, looks like you really got the short end of the stick.”

Serena lowered her voice. “Eleanor, hardly anyone knows about this. I really wanted to keep it quiet for you. But someone asked me if it was true, and I couldn’t lie. Eleanor, Vera is your friend–how could you do that to her?”
Eleanor shot back, “And what exactly did I do to her?”
Serena’s voice was soft. “You wanted her to suffer just because you were hurting. Eleanor, being your friend is really tough.”
“Mom, I really think Chris and Eleanor should just call off the wedding,” Kara said. “If this gets out, people are going to laugh at us.”
Martha frowned. “Seriously, what era do you think we’re living in? Why are you still so old–fashioned? I already know what happened–Tyler told me. Eleanor only got into trouble because she was trying to help someone.“.
“Mom, why are you always so biased?” Kara complained.
“And Chris, your own wife has her own skeletons in the closet, doesn’t she? So why is it fine when it’s her, but when it comes to Eleanor, you suddenly care so much?
“Besides, this is Tyler’s business. If he doesn’t care, why are you making such a big deal out of it?” said Martha.
Tyler had already told Martha everything about what happened back then, including that he was the one who took Eleanor away that night.
Martha knew exactly what kind of person Tyler was–if he wanted to protect someone, he’d make anything sound convincing. Plus, she really liked Eleanor and couldn’t bear to let her go.
“Grandma, you don’t really know what Eleanor’s like,” said Chris. “Eleanor, let me ask you–Vera’s your friend, right?”
“Yes.” Eleanor nodded.
“Then why’d you try to hurt her?” Chris asked.
Eleanor let out a cold laugh. “Chris, have you completely lost it? I told Vera to call the cops about this. The police should be here any minute now.”
Chris shot back, his voice icy, “You’re just asking for trouble.”
A flicker of unease crossed Serena’s face.
Eleanor traced the rim of her glass with her finger, a cold smirk on her lips. “Hey, Chris, do you even know who Vera was with that night? Logan. You really think that’s just a coincidence?”
Chris glared at her. “You did this on purpose. You even went after my friend.”
Eleanor raised a finger and waved it. “Those reporters? They’ve already been questioned. Every single one of them said they were put up to it by a woman

surnamed Farrell. What a coincidence, huh, Serena?”
Before Serena could say a word, Wendy hurried in. “There are a bunch of cops outside.”
“Let them in,” Tyler said.
Serena glanced at Eleanor, a smug, gloating look on her face.
“Which one of you is Ms. Serena Farrell?” the lead officer stepped into the room and said. “You’ve been reported for purchasing illegal substances and spiking drinks. Please come with us to assist in our investigation.”
Serena was stunned. This wasn’t part of the plan–she’d meant for Vera to call out Eleanor, not this. Eleanor rested her chin in her hand, watching Serena with a relaxed air and a hint of disdain in her eyes.
Serena caught on and put on her most pitiful look. “Eleanor, you really have it good. Just a few words and Lila believes you. Even after you hurt Vera, she still takes your side.”
Eleanor’s lips curled into a mocking smile. “Are you sure it was me, Serena? Lying always comes back to bite you. Careful you don’t trip on your way out.”
“I’ll prove I’m innocent,” Serena shouted.
As Serena walked past her, Eleanor suddenly stuck out her foot. Serena crashed to the floor, pain shooting through her knees. Eleanor laughed. “See? Karma works fast.”
“Serena.” Chris stepped up and helped Serena up. “Eleanor, with Tyler here, you can just do whatever you want. Around here, whatever you say goes–real or fake, it’s all up to you, isn’t it?”
Eleanor let out a dry laugh, grabbed a glass of water, and dumped it right over Chris and Serena. “Serena, you can come after me all you want, but if you mess with my friend, you’re asking for trouble.
“All you want is to make that thing public and get me to lose a friend. Honestly, how clueless can you be?”
Serena muttered, “You just want to pin something on me, don’t you?”
Eleanor smirked. “But you forgot one thing–not everyone is as heartless as you are.”
Serena frowned. “What are you even talking about?”
Eleanor said, “First, this whole thing never even had a chance to blow up online.
Second, whatever you sent Vera, she already forwarded it to me. Third, those reporters?
They’re gone. Having them point you out–seems fair, right?”
Chris shot Serena a suspicious look. “What did you send Vera?”
“I… nothing,” Serena said.
Eleanor pressed, “What, too scared to admit it now?”
