Chapter 10 I’ve Moved On
The man heard this and responded, “Ah, you don’t get it. Miss Wood already terminated the pregnancy, and Mr. Wood has made it clear–Miss Wood has moved on from her late hus- band and is ready to remarry. Now, everyone has a chance.”
“She terminated the pregnancy?” Paul, along with Marcel and Sarah, all spoke at once, their faces going ashen.
Paul immediately sneered. “That’s impossible. She valued her late husband and child more than her own life. There’s no way she would have let go of them and terminated the pregnan- cy. As for you all… ”
He looked at the men in line with contempt.
“Let’s not even mention the fact that she was assaulted by kidnappers. She’s been through enough. And now she’s carrying someone else’s child, still thinking about other men, and you guys are all fighting to marry into her family? Are you all addicted to being cuckolds or something?”
As soon as Paul finished speaking, the expressions of the men in line turned dark.
One man angrily shot back, “How dare you speak like that? Miss Wood was a victim. I heard she was a devoted daughter–in–law and a loving wife when she was married to the Rodgers family. She was a rare, good woman, and you have the nerve to slander her like this!”
“Exactly! Let’s get him, guys!”
Paul was immediately held down and beaten. In the end, he had no choice but to grudgingly join the line. They didn’t dare leave, fearing they’d have to start over from the back.
I heard that by the time it was his turn, it was already the third day. After three sleepless nights, he and his parents finally made it into our villa.
As soon as Sarah saw me, her eyes filled with tears, and she began to complain. “Monica, those people outside are nothing but bandits. Look what they did to Thad! And your dad,

too! You’re still carrying our family’s child, and we care about you.”

She continued, “But your dad can’t just ignore your wishes and find someone to marry to you. This is ridiculous. You need to talk to him and make sure he doesn’t act so recklessly in the future.”
Paul stood to the side, looking cold and sneering. “We’re here to take you home. You’re still Paul’s wife, and living at your parents‘ house forever isn’t right.”
He added, “Also, I’m willing to merge the families and take care of you and the child, treat- ing the child as my own and you as my wife. But just remember, Jessie will always be the first wife.”
I couldn’t help but laugh bitterly. ‘First wife, second wife–haven’t we moved past that by now? And here he is still dreaming of that nonsense.‘
Sarah looked me up and down before smiling. “I have to admit, the doctors here at Mr. Wood’s place are excellent. It’s only been a little over a month, and you already look so much better.”
She continued, “When you leave, we’ll bring those doctors along to take care of you. But I still have to say, those people outside are completely out of line, spreading rumors about your child being terminated. It’s downright cruel!”
At that point, I couldn’t keep quiet any longer. I spoke up, “They’re right. I did terminate the pregnancy. I’ve let go of Paul, and I’m ready to move on with my life.”
