Chapter 3 Love Only You
Although I tried my best to calm myself down, the anger and resentment still caused tears to spill uncontrollably,
The next day, with swollen eyes and a pale face, I made my way downstairs. There, I was Paul carefully feeding Jessie,
The two of them were snuggled up together, whispering sweet nothings to each other. From a distance, they really did seem like the perfect couple,
I clenched my fists. The sharp sting in my palms helped clear my mind,
Soon, Jessie noticed I was there. When she saw how disheveled I looked, a smug glint flashed in her eyes. Then, as if to make a statement, she buried her face in Paul’s chest, act- ing all sweet and flirtatious.
Paul, however, was completely focused on her, feeding her without even noticing me.
I lowered my gaze, watching the adoring smile he gave her. A bitter, mocking feeling rose in my chest. This kind of affection was something I had never received from him in the three years we’d been together.
I rubbed my stomach and calmly sat down at the table. Lowering my head, I began eating, carefully picking the most nutritious food and forcing myself to eat more.
I would have an abortion, take care of my body, and then make everyone who had hurt me pay–double.
When I finished eating, I wiped my mouth.
By the time I was done, Paul had finished feeding Jessie as well. Only then did he lift his head and look at me. Upon seeing my swollen eyes and pale face, he paused for a moment.
He probably assumed I was crying over his death, and for a split second, I saw a flicker of guilt on his face.

But it didn’t last long. His expression quickly hardened, and with a cold tone, he said, “Moni- ca, I know you’re upset about Paul’s passing, but I’m not going to agree to this idea of merg- ing both families.”
He added, “My heart belongs to Jessie, and there’s no way I could share it with you, not even a little.”
Jessie looked at me smugly, but still pretended to be concerned as she said, “Monica, you didn’t cry all night just because my husband won’t agree to merge both families, did you?”
She added, “I’m sorry for being too hasty yesterday. But… but I really can’t back down when it comes to the man I love…”
As she spoke, her fragile body gave a slight tremor, her eyes reddening again. She pressed a hand to her chest, putting on a dramatic show of heartbreak.
Paul, looking concerned, shot me a glare, then wrapped Jessie in his arms, comforting her. “Jessie, don’t worry. You’re the only one for me, now and forever. I’ll never be with another woman, not even in death.”
