Jan’s hand had frozen around her waist. His muscles tensed as if someone had poured a bucket of ice water on him in the cold weather. That time the bone froze, and his hands also froze like that.
Ava moved back and stood on her feet. She saw how he was unmoved. She slowly unwrapped his hand from her waist. She brushed his shoulder as if removing invisible dust.
“It’s okay. That happens sometimes. Your reaction is so natural. But…”
She looked into his eyes and asked,
“Don’t you think you are overreacting? I mean I thought you would be happy after learning that. You hate him and he got a whore like me-”
She could not finish speaking as he grabbed her waist once again. This time, he spun her around and pressed her against the wall.
“What did you say?” he asked.
“Y–You heard me,” she responded, taken aback by his unexpected action.
She gasped when she saw how instantly his eyes turned red. She was not startled by looking at them. His red eyes were filled with something that looked like black smoke and gave him a menacing appearance.
“Say that again. I dare you.”
She took a deep breath, calming herself.
She turned her head away from him, pushing him with all of her strength. But he was like a stone.
For once, she wanted to show him who she was and what power she held. If she wanted, she could cause him pain he had never experienced before.
However, she refused to show it to him. She wanted to keep her identity hidden. Or she could say she did not think he deserved to know.
She controlled herself from turning her eyes from black to emerald.
“Look, I am running late. I have work to do. I am not-”
He interrupted her by grabbing her jaw. He turned her head, forcing her to look at him.
“You and him, that’s impossible,” he muttered.
It puzzled Ava as to why he said that. Why could Dane not be with her?
It enraged her. She gripped his wrist, which was holding her jaw.
Her fingers wrapped so tightly around his wrist that her nails pierced his skin. He felt that her nails were becoming sharper by the second. But he could take the pain.
He kept his gaze fixed and ignored the pain.
Suddenly his eyes turned black as he let go of her jaw when he felt a burning sensation in his wrist.
He stepped back, lowering his head to look at his hand.
She dug her nails so deep that blood was coming out of there. He looked at her with a pair of confused eyes. However, they returned to being fierce.

“A man that already has a fiancée should not grab another woman’s jaw.”
He gritted his teeth and muttered,
“Now you will teach me how to be loyal?”
She nodded her head. “Yes, you are right. Now I will teach you how to be faithful to your partner, Ian Dawson. I will stay loyal to Alpha Dane until the end.”
He stared at her for a moment, frozen, as if everything was hitting him slowly.
He recalled what Dane had said. When he was in his office, he flanked Ava to be his favorite woman.
He remembered how Ava and Dane were smiling at each other, their interaction in the meeting room, everything came to his mind.
He moved slightly when he realized the call Ava used to receive was from Dane.
So that ‘D‘ was Dane?
Ian could not just believe that.
How did that happen?
Wasn’t Freya Dane’s lover?
How did he end up meeting Ava? How did they first start talking? How did they become so close to one another? How did they become lovers?
Lovers?
Were they in love?
Ian’s heart sank with a sharp pain.
“So he was the reason you chose not to return your pack? That night…”
She responded bluntly, with a cold expression on her face. Yes, you are right. I was with him that night. The shirt I was wearing was his. You wanted to know if I had fun, right? Yes, I had. Or what do you want to ask?”
Every word she said was making his blood boil. He was unable to recall that night again. Only he knew how he was controlling himself and his inner wolf, who was not pleased with what she had just said.
Ava glanced at the door when she heard the sounds of people’s footsteps. She was taken aback that they would come to that room. So she pushed him and walked toward the door to leave.
Ian remained standing in his place. His eyes were fixed on the wall, processing everything.
Just as Ava reached for the doorknob to open it, he spoke up,
“Was it him who stopped you from returning to this pack when the news of the accident spread around?”
Ava’s hand paused near the doorknob. She blinked her eyes, stopping herself from thinking back to the past. She took a deep breath and replied,
“No. I was the one who had never considered it.”
He immediately turned around to look at her. His gaze rested on her back.
He wanted to rush up to her and ask why she did that to him. What did she gain from playing his heart? However,

her next statement astounded him.
“The boy who crushed my spirit and destroyed all of my hope for survival… I had no desire to see him again. That time, I decided to move on with dignity, which he would never understand.”
Ava did not turn to look at him. But she thought today she should say what was in her heart. Even though he would not believe it, she needed to clear her side so that he would not create problems between her and Dane.
After a short pause to gather her thoughts, she said,
“In that pack, I met a man who showed me what the actual feeling is. I am with him right now. He is my man, I can be with him however I want. He never calls me whore, never accuses me of cheating on him even if I had to face the same situation. He believed in me and accepted me for who I am. He gave me the trust I desired in another person.”
