ONE WEEK LATER

Ava awoke to the sound of a loud alarm. She opened her eyes and did not consider sleeping for a few minutes longer. She sat up slowly, grabbing the phone and stopping the alarm, which would continue to snooze if she did not turn it off.

She glanced outside the window. It was early in the morning.

Another day arrived, and she had to pass it. She believed she would have to cooperate with her fate without questioning it much.

She left the Mystic Shadow Pack one week ago. She did not tell her mate before leaving. That was y her wolf was really upset with her, refusing to shift again.

Ava was in real trouble. Her wolf’s resistance was really hurting her, making her weak.

All week, she could only practice her powers as a witch, but she could not shift and run.

The last time she had shifted was when she met Ian and realized that he had become her mate.

Ava’s phone rang in her hand, drawing her attention away from the window.

She received the phone call while getting out of the blanket.

“Ava”

Dane’s calm voice reached her ear. She walked into the closet while saying,

“I’m listening.”

Her tone toward him was as gentle as usual. She could not be rude to him, even though he had cheated on her in the relationship.

That night with Freya was nothing in his eyes, but to her, it was a betrayal from him. However, he bound her with the promises that her parents made in the past. He also made her remind her promise to him not to forgive Ian.

She was a woman of words. She did not know how things would go in the future, but she decided to go with the flow. She did not back down from her promise. 3

But one thing was sure: Dane’s position in her heart had moved. She still had a soft corner for him in her heart; however, it was not that strong anymore.

Before the likeness could form into love, he broke her trust

“The meeting is in ten minutes. I sent my car to your home’

Hearing him, her brows furrowed. “I can come by myself.”

“But Ava, it’s urgent, and I don’t want you to be hurried then-”

“Tell your driver to go back. I will take a cab and come to the company in time.”

There was a sign of distance in her voice. She cut the call and freshened up in a few minutes. She knew she could not reach the company in ten minutes. But she did not want his help either.

She rushed out of her house, heading to the pack company.

When she arrived at the company, she was fifteen minutes late. She let out a sigh of defeat. Though she had told the cabbie to drive faster, she could not come in time because of the long distance between her house and the company.

She entered the meeting room, and everyone gave her a glance, saying that she was late.

She was stunned that Dane had not started the meeting without her.

She ignored him the whole meeting and only talked to him when it was needed.

When the meeting was over, Dane stopped Ava from leaving the meeting room by grabbing her wrist.

“Are you still mad at me?”

His voice was soft, and his brown eyes were gentle when he talked to her.

Ava looked at him, slipping her hand out of his touch. He noticed it, clenching his hands.

“If you keep that one night in your head forever, how can you live with me your whole life?”

His question scared her. She gave him a smile that looked painful to him, causing the gentleness to fade in his eyes.

“You will have to forget about it. I told you that I have nothing to do with Freya.”

Ava shook her head and replied, “I don’t care anymore. It’s between you two.”

“You are a part of my life now.”

She gave a low chuckle and asked, “Dane, if I had made the same mistake, would you have forgiven me?”

His eyes darkened as soon as he heard that. He grabbed her arms and lowered his face to reach her level.

“Why did you say that? Why would you sleep with that man? Didn’t he break your heart? He didn’t trust you and made you suffer for years. How can you forget that again?”

Ava stared into his eyes. He sounded manipulative to her. “You broke my heart too. If I had slept with him, I would have counted it as cheating. But it appears that if I had done that, I would not have felt as bad as I do right now.

His grip loosened as he released her. He stood still and placed his hand on her head.

He stroked her hair slowly and muttered,

“Don’t talk nonsense. You can never do that. You promised me you would not forgive that man. I know you will only follow what your father wanted years ago. You are bound to be with me.”
