Chapter 7 Karma
“I had no idea you guys had a third Healer.”
My questions were making Joshua’s team nervous. Joshua, however, didn’t seem fazed. “A regular person’s opinion doesn’t matter. This healing elixir is the real deal. If you don’t want to work with us, you don’t have to,” he threatened.
“No, wait, Captain Frost. Dawnlight is not representing us!”
“Yeah, we’re more than happy to work with you!”
Something flickered in Joshua’s eyes, and he announced, “A thousand beast cores for a bottle of healing elixir.”
Another silence captured the room. The price was exorbitant. Metahumans only needed a hundred beast cores to power up one time. The elixir cost too much. It was good, yes, but the elixir was nothing but a support item. The real meat was the metahumans‘ strength.
Some of the bases‘ top brass were weighing their options, while some opted out of the race.
Some were buttering up Joshua to try haggling with him.
Shawn blurted, “Why don’t you guys check out our healing elixir? It works for a longer
period and has no side effects. And it only costs a hundred beast cores.”
Joshua mocked, “I’ve never heard of any Healers popping up in any other base than ours. Are you sure a non–Healer can make a decent healing elixir?”
“A wager, then. Or are you scared?”
“You wish.”
A pair of metahumans suffering from frostbite was brought into the room. They were
hooked up to all sorts of machines, and the screen was showing their vitals. The
metahumans drank the elixirs, and at first, there was no difference between the two.
However, Mystic Tiger’s elixir lost its effect soon after, but Dawnlight’s elixir was still

working, and its effect was getting stronger.
“This is impossible!” Joshua was shocked. “You switched the elixirs!”
Shawn shrugged, while everyone else whispered among themselves. The gossip was embarrassing Joshua, and he got frustrated. “You did this, Sera?”

The guy was getting a little bit unhinged, and I gleaned a lot of satisfaction from that. “I’m just a regular person. I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
I sneered. I never did say the formula I handed in was a complete one.
Mystic Tiger’s group scurried off like defeated dogs, and Dawnlight became the hottest trade partner for everyone.
The conference was over, and I returned to my house in Dawnlight. Irene was lying in bed, hooked up to an IV drip. She had to live like this forever, and I sighed.
The moment I saw Joshua but not Irene, I knew he must’ve stripped her Ability in exchange
for a chance to escape.
Irene smiled. “Did you get him?”
“Of course. Just rest up. I’ll handle everything.”
…
After I saved Irene, I found out she had been reborn. She saw how Joshua squeezed out
every last drop of value from me in the last life. After he got famous thanks to the elixir I
developed, he set his eyes on my dragon pendant and took it from me.
In the end, I was imprisoned in a dark underground chamber, turned into a frozen statue.
That was why Irene made me as mad as she could. She wanted me to escape the base.
I caressed her arm. At least now I know my best friend never betrayed me.
We went on another expedition, and Joshua’s team tailed us, trying to scavenge for leftovers. I led them into a lair of Frozen Wolftigers, and once they were all injured, I lured
them into a remote frozen cave, then I sealed the entrance with an Esoteric Divination
formation.
I watched them as they slowly turned into frozen statues, and satisfaction coursed through my veins. My smile never left my lips.
“You want some threesome? Well, you can have an orgy now. Enjoy.”
