“What’s going on?” I asked anxiously.
Upon hearing that my father was in trouble, my heart started pounding loudly.
Auntie Violet scratched her messy scalp and said, “I don’t know either. I just went to the store to buy rice and saw your father take a knife from inside and leave. I asked him what he needed the knife for, but he didn’t even look at me and just left in a huff.”

“The small train station?”

Was my father planning to go on a long trip?
I entrusted Auntie Violet to look after Karina and hurriedly chased after my father.
While chasing after him, I called him on the phone.
The call connected.
“Dad, why aren’t you coming home?” I asked as calmly as possible, trying not to reveal any

“Dad has something urgent to attend to and won’t be coming home tonight. You and Karina can sleep in the back room; the beds are made, and there are new blankets,” Dad said on the other end of the
line.

Dad didn’t specify, “Be good, rest well. Dad will be back tomorrow.”
I knew I wouldn’t get any more information from him. I was also afraid that he might take a train and leave, so I had no choice but to hang up the phone.
I stopped a passing taxi and rushed to the small train station.
On the deserted stone stairs outside the train station, I saw Dad’s figure.
He sat there with a hunched back, holding a cigarette in his hand, smoking sullenly.
Beside him, a small trash bag was filled with cigarette butts.

I approached him and reached into his pocket, taking out an old wallet and pulling out a train ticket.
