Chapter 1
“Ava! I got you a villa in a prime location in Los Angeles as a gift for your company going public,”
“If you and Brian hadn’t brought me into your startup, I’d still be working dead–end jobs.”
Hearing the familiar voice and looking at Olivia’s smiling face before me, I realized-
I’d been reborn.
In my previous life, I accepted and moved in the villa Morgan gifted me, only to have my throat slashed on the night by someone seeking revenge.
Now I understood everything. She announced the purchase of the villa in front of numerous reporters to expose the address to everyone, then privately sold it to me. She simply wanted me to be her scapegoat.
This way, she could not only have her enemy commit murder and go to prison, but also take everything I owned. Killing two birds with one stone.
When I didn’t respond, my husband Brian spoke up: “Honey, Morgan’s like a sister to you. This is her gift–don’t hesitate.”
I laughed coldly inside.
He’d never shown me affection in public before, but now he was standing close to Morgan with unusual intimacy.
If I hadn’t lived through it once already, I might have thought nothing of it, assuming they just had a close friendship.
But now I knew they’d been sleeping together behind my back for years, and they even planned to have me killed.
This time, since I understood everything. I wouldn’t let them manipulate me again.
The killer would be released in three days. As long as I didn’t move in before then, I’d be safe.
“Keep it for yourself. I’ll buy my own place when I’m ready.”
Normally, Morgan and I were close friends who often exchanged gifts without refusing them. My refusal caught them by surprise.
Morgan’s expression darkened. “Ava, what’s wrong with you…”
Chapter 1
Brian frowned, displeased. “Ava, what’s going on? Morgan’s just being thoughtful. Why are you refusing? Are you trying to hurt her feelings?”
I laughed softly, looking at how close their bodies were standing. “She won’t be hurt. Aren’t you keeping her warm enough?”
Hearing this, Brian immediately erupted: “Ava! What are you implying?!”
“I only see Morgan as a sister. After all these years of marriage, don’t you trust me?!”
I remained silent, which infuriated Brian more.
But Morgan jumped in first: “Don’t be angry, Brian. Ava’s probably just jealous. We should keep our distance in the future so she doesn’t get the wrong idea.”
Though she said this, she didn’t move away at all, instead standing even closer to him.
Then she turned to smile at me. “Don’t worry, Ava. I only see Brian as a brother. There’s nothing between us. If you don’t like the villa, I’ll find you another surprise later.”
I smiled faintly. “As long as it’s not a shocking surprise.”
“How could it be?” Morgan looked awkward.
Brian glared at me again, saying I was ungrateful, that I’d forgotten about the friends who helped me succeed just because my company had gone public, and that I was throwing my weight around.
But I couldn’t be bothered with them anymore. I had more important things to do.
Before I died, I’d seen the killer’s face–Jessica Miller, our former financial director who had been imprisoned after Morgan accused her of embezzlement. But now I suspected there was more to the story.
Otherwise, why would she be so determined to murder Morgan upon release?
I needed to reexamine the case.
The grudge from my past life couldn’t just end up without any resolution!
