Chapter 2
But the case happened too long ago, and I couldn’t find any leads.
That evening, I received a message from Brian.
“Tll be home late tonight.”
If he had actually gone home, he would have known I hadn’t been back at all.
It seems he was out with Morgan the whole time, otherwise he wouldn’t be unaware that I’d been at the office all day.
Shortly after, I heard the elevator coming up to my floor and instinctively turned off the lights in my office.
It had to be Brian and Morgan. I wanted to see what they were doing at the office so late.
I overheard their conversation outside my door.
“Babe, I’ve already checked with my friends. Jessica gets released in three days. The media has already pushed the news about me moving into the mansion to the top trending spot. When she gets out, she’ll immediately go to the mansion for revenge. In the dark, she won’t be able to see clearly and will definitely mistake Ava for me.”
“Then the police will execute her for murder, and I’ll never have to worry about her again. And we can be together without hiding from Ava anymore.”
“It’s just a shame that Ava isn’t taking the bait. She doesn’t want to accept my gift.”
“Don’t worry, Morgan. I’ll figure something out.”
“Are you sure she doesn’t suspect anything?”
Brian scoffed: “Suspect? She’s been like a loyal puppy following me around since the beginning. If her parents hadn’t pushed her to marry me, I wouldn’t have given her a second glance. No matter how much I fool around, she’d never dare mention divorce.”
“That’s good. But just thinking about how that idiot would react if she knew me and you have been sleeping together for three years makes me laugh.”
“Babe, the office is empty tonight. We weren’t satisfied at the hotel, should we…?”
Morgan giggled. “You’re so bad…”

Then came the sound of heavy breathing.
That bastard!
After all these years of my love for him!
Brian and I were high schoolmates. To attend the same university as him, I even turned down my acceptance to an Ivy League school.
After we started dating, I took care of him completely. When his parents got sick, I scraped together money and ran errands for them constantly.
He was anxious about the responsibilities of having children, so I never pressured him about starting a family.
But I never imagined that in his heart, he never truly valued me, and was even plotting with someone else to kill me!
Soon, they went into the office next door.
I was filled with rage, but now was not the time to expose these two. I still needed to gather evidence of Morgan’s crimes and make her pay.
I quietly left the company.
But I still couldn’t figure out why someone would seek revenge by killing after only being wrongfully imprisoned. What exactly did Morgan do to her?
