After splashing some cold water on my face, Caroline and I were on our way out of the bathroom when we ran into the she devil I was hoping to avoid today out of all days. “You’re looking a little pals, Scarlett Veronica meered as she pushed past Caroline and 1.
Has this bitch never heard of manners before?
“Fuck off, Veronica.” I fired back. I was so not in the mood for her today. I don’t know what it is about being sick, but it makes me ten times pissier and on edge than usual.
“God!” Caroline let out a frustrated groan. “I cannot wait until the day I never see her face again.”
When the two of us finally sat down in the cafeteria, everyone gave me a sympathetic smile. Alex looked like he was about to say something, but I quickly stopped him. “If one more fucking person tells me to go home today.” I gritted out, looking at all of them. “I will not be responsible for my actions.”
“Buttercup, you’re being really mean today.” Lucas laughed, popping a French fry into his mouth.
I’m aware I’m acting like a bitch, but sometimes it just comes so naturally.
“Yes, Lucas.” I sighed. “Thank you for pointing that out!” I love Lucas, and on any other give day, I would find him really funny. Today, however, was not one of those days.
My stomach still had not settled, so I thought it would be best to stay far away from food until I got home. Instead, I opted for a Gatorade from one of the vending machines.
Hopefully, this will hold me over for the remainder of the day.
Taking out my Econ notes, I pulled out my phone and put my headphones in–turning the music up so that I could drown out all the noise. Although Aiden didn’t say anything, I could feel his burning gaze as he ran soothing circles on my thigh. There goes my heart again.
Lately, I noticed it was the little things that made my heart melt.
What was this boy doing to me?
I’m too young to die of heart attack.
Deciding that this was not the time for an internal debate, I pushed all thoughts of Aiden and his lingering touch out of my head. Trust me when I tell you, that is easier said than done especially when every nerve in my body shoots up in excitement under his touch.
Handing Mr. Monroe my exam when the bell rang, I dragged myself to my locker to grab my jacket and get the hell out of this place. Despite being bundled up, halfway through eight period I began getting the chills, and the pounding in my head only became more and more noticeable.

Chapter 120
I was almost out the back entrance when I heard someone call out, “Buttercup!”
Freedom was so close, yet so far.
Turning around, I saw Lucas and Aiden walking towards the gym with the rest of the boys soccer team. Lucas waved at me enthusiastically, while Aiden began jogging to where I had stopped in the middle of the hallway. He had on a pair of black Nike shorts and his white #7 jersey that made him looked so delicious.
“You heading home, Princess?” He asked, coming to a halt in front of me.
I rolled my eyes. “No, I’m going to Mars.” The corner of his lips twitched upward into a smile.
“Are you feeling any better?” His eyes roamed my face. I shook my head no, pulling the jacket tighter around me.
“I’ll feel much better when I get home.” I shrugged. His eyes continued to roam my figure before lifting his hand to my forehead.
“Scarlett, you don’t look so good.” He furrowed his eyebrows. “I can drive you home. Just give me five minutes to change!” He had already turned around to head to the locker room but I quickly reached out and grabbed his arm.
“Aiden, I’ll be fine.” I reassured him. “Go, or coach will have you running laps all of practice.”
“But” He began protesting.
“No buts!” I rolled my eyes. “And for the record, telling me I don’t look so good isn’t going to earn you any brownie paints!” Of course I was only joking, but it was worth it to see the look on his face. “I’m only kidding.” I added before I started walking backwards.
“You’re not funny, Princess.” Aiden smirked, taking both of my hands in his. I saw him begin to lean down, but I was painstakingly aware of the rest of his teammates at the end of the hall not so discreetly watching the whole thing. That, and the fact that I looked like the flu monster straight out of a Night quill commercial.
“Aiden!” I groaned, taking two steps back from him. “What?” He asked innocently, a smile dancing on his lips.
“You know what.” I gave him a pointed look. “Go!” I steered him in the direction of his teammates and gave him a slight push towards them.
The first thing I did when I got home was take a steaming hot shower in hopes of allowing my body to warm up. When it became evident that I was not going to even look at my homework for the day, I climbed into bed after drawing the curtains closed and buried myself under the covers. As soon as my head hit the pillow I was out like a light, not a care in the world.
