Chapter 124
As funny as it would have been to bear witness Ella throwing something at Aiden, I figured the two of them could use some bonding time. That – and I didn’t want to be witness to her
murdering him in his sleep. You know, plausible deniability and all.
As I lay in bed staring up at the ceiling, the desk in the corner of my room kept catching my
eye.
To do it, or not to do it.
I eventually made myself get up and walk over to the desk. I had a small bulletin board
hung up on the wall that housed pictures from over the years and a few reminders, however, in the left hand corner there was a small piece of paper with a hand–written phone number on it.
Taking a deep breath, I pulled out the gold push pin and removed the paper.
Bitterly, I unlocked my phone and began punching in the numbers one by one. I debated calling, but I didn’t trust myself on the phone. Instead, I did the cowardly thing and texted
him instead.
Scarlett: Colectivo Coffee Evanston. 11 am.
–
The reply came back almost instantly.
Unknown: Okay
He just had to come back now, and literally turn my entire life upside down. Where the hell was he twelve years ago when I actually wanted him to come back.
I like to think that I’m a fairly good person I may not give back a lot to charity cause you know, I’m broke and whatnot, but I care about other people.
I care about animals.
I care about the environment.
I listen to my mother.

I get good grades.
So why the hell do these things have to keep happening to me?
I wish I could tell you that the exhaustion I felt earlier had continued on into the night, but that would be a lie. Instead, my poor heart decided that it had a mind of its own tonight. After the almost instantaneous reply came, I couldn’t get my heart to stop racing.
You know that feeling when you’re hyped up on too much coffee and can’t seem to sit still? Yeah – that’s exactly how I was feeling.
The TV droned on in the background and even Klaus Mikaelson’s sexy accent couldn’t get
me to sit still and focus.
Glancing at the clock on the wall, it was just after three in the morning.
Fantastic.
Does anyone want to take a wild guess as to what I was doing at three in the morning –
other than having a mental breakdown?
I was cleaning.
I had dumped everything from my backpack on my bed and there were clothes thrown
around in various corners of the room. I figured, this was as good a time as any to get rid of
some of the clothes I don’t wear anymore.
Who the hell needs these many clothes anyway?
I woke up the next morning to the sun shining brightly onto my face through the sheer curtain. In my frantic state last night, I must have forgotten to pull the drapes closed.
Removing a piece of loose leaf paper off my face, I sat up in bed and searched for my phone. After shoving some textbooks and notebooks aside, I finally found it buried under a
stack of folders.
It was just after 9:30 am, which meant I had about an hour to get ready before I had to go meet him. Dragging myself out of bed, I went to take a shower in hopes of waking myself

- up. I was feeling pretty exhausted considering I didn’t fall asleep until after four.
On my way to the bathroom, I saw there was a note on the coffee table from my mom.
Went to a spin class with Miranda! I’ll be back in time for lunch xoxo.
Right – I probably should have told her what I was doing today. Oh well, I’ll fill her in later.
After my shower, I changed into a pair of black high wasted skinny jeans and a black top, paired with my favorite beige cardigan and white low top converse. Mother nature had decided to keep the good weather coming all weekend, so I didn’t need a jacket.
After quickly paying for parking, I made my way over to the the building were the café was located. It was right on the corner of two main streets with a large red sign that read: Colectivo. Stepping inside, the place was packed with people. I quickly scanned the room when my eyes landed on the person I was looking for. He was sitting at a table my the window, scrolling through his phone and sporting a frown.
He looked up just in time to see me approaching the table. Setting his phone down, he smiled up at me. “Hi Scarlett.” Motioning to the seat across from him, “Thank you for
coming.”
“Um… hi.” I forced a smile in hopes of covering up the scowl I no doubt had.
No matter how hard I try, I can never seem to be able to control my facial expressions.
“How are you?” He glanced around awkwardly before attempting small talk.
“Good.” I replied in a monotone voice.
Don’t say anything stupid Scarlett, I thought to myself. Don’t let your emotions get the best
of you.
