Chapter 127
“That’s me.” I replied bitterly, pulling away from her. A flash of hurt flashed across her eyes
as she went back to stand next to my father.
“Great news Scarlett!” My father smiled, as he wrapped his arm around his wife. “The doctor was just telling us that you’re a match for Brittany!”
Fantastic.
“Great.” I replied, not meeting his eyes. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy to be helping the girl in any way I can, but there are about a million other things I would rather be doing than getting a huge ass needle stuck in my back.
Perhaps googling bone marrow transplants last night when I couldn’t sleep wasn’t the best
idea.
“I’m Dr. Timothy and I’ll be the one performing the procedure.” The man wearing green
scrubs introduced himself. He looked to be in his late fifties, maybe early sixties, with a
prominent bald spot.
I nodded in acknowledgement as he began speaking once again. “Due to the advanced nature of Brittany’s condition, we’d like to perform the transplant as soon as possible. We
have an opening Wednesday morning.”
Wednesday morning – that’s two days from now.
I continued to stare at Dr. Timothy, waiting for him to go on but he was looking at me expectantly. “Um… I guess that’s fine.”
“Great.” He smiled and handed me a green folder with the hospital’s logo on it. “Here is the paperwork we’ll need you to bring with you on Wednesday morning. There is also additional information about the procedure outlined in the packet. Make sure you don’t eat after midnight on Tuesday night because we’ll be placing you under general anesthesia. If you have any questions, my card is in there. Don’t hesitate to give us a call.” With that he gave us one last nod, before he began retreating down the hall.
I stared blankly at the folder in my hands before I was snapped back to reality.

“I can’t believe it’s finally happening, Brandon.” The brunette sobbed into my father’s shoulder as he hugged her.
If this was anyone else, I might have actually found the scene before me to be heartwarming. However, since it wasn’t – I had to physically restrain myself from rolling
my eyes.
“I know honey.” He smiled down at her.
Barf.
Glancing down at my phone, it read 10:47 am. If I leave now, I can probably make it to school in time for Calculus. With that, I left the two happy parents behind and began walking towards the exit to the parking garage where my car was.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get very far before I heard my name being called out.
“Scarlett, wait –”
Instead of stopping, I continued to walk straight ahead. “Scarlett –” My father said once again as he caught up with me.
“What?” I snapped, refusing to look at him.
“I just… I just wanted to say thank you.” He replied.
I let out a bitter laugh. “You’ve already said thank you. Now go back to your family. I have to get to school.”
He was silent for a moment, and I almost believed I had lost him in my hurry to continue walking and get the hell out of this place.
“You don’t understand, Scarlett. This means so much to Kelsey and I. Without you – I don’t… I don’t know what we would do.”
“Right. Well – you and Kelsey are both welcome. Now leave me the hell alone.”
“I did not raise you to be this rude, Scarlett.” He scolded.
Now that, got my attention.

Chapter 127
Stopping abruptly to turn and face him, I said, “First of all, stop fucking calling me Scarlett. You don’t get to call me by my name. Second of all, you didn’t raise me. So like I said, leave
me the hell alone.”
“This is your mother’s doing.” I heard him mutter as he shook his head. “She poisoned you
against me.”
“Are you fucking kidding me right now?” I shouted. “Are you hearing yourself?”
“She didn’t have to poison you against me.” I continued, exasperated. “You did that all on
your own!”
“That’s no ” He attempted to say but I was quicker – and quite frankly really pissed off.
“Let’s get one thing straight. I didn’t do this for you.” I spat. “I did it for Brittany because she is innocent in all of this. My decision has nothing to do with you. In fact, just because I’m here doesn’t change the way I feel about you. I’ve hated you since the moment you walked out, and I will continue to hate you until the day I die.”
“You are the reason I will always have to wonder for the rest of my life why I wasn’t good enough. You were supposed to protect me. Instead, you brought me the greatest pain I’ve ever known.” I continued. “So thanks a lot, dad.”
As far as I’m concerned, you can go fuck yourself.
As tempting as it was to say that to him, it might have crossed a line.
“One more thing.” I said as I unlocked my car. “Where did you move to after you left mom
and I.”
