Chapter 129
No amount of textbook reading will be able to make up for the fact that I’m missing an in–person lecture.
When I walked into the classroom, Aiden was already in his seat next to my desk. I half
expected him to seat somewhere else, to be honest.
When he saw me, he looked up from his phone and flashed me a smile.
There he goes again, melting my heart with a single look.
“I’m sorry for being such a bitch earlier, but I really don’t want to talk about it.” I
half–whispered as I took my seat next to him.
I could tell he was still hurt that I didn’t want to tell him what was going on, but he nevertheless dropped it and squeezed my thigh as the two of us turned our attention to Mr. Monroe who had begun droning on and on about real vs. nominal interest rates.
When the bell finally rang, I waved goodbye to Aiden before he could start pestering me again and walked straight to the parking lot. After spending twenty minutes in the parking lot trying to leave with the other hundreds of students, I finally made it home and collapsed on my bed.
I need a nap.
But of course, nothing ever goes as planned. After changing out of my clothes into a pair of shorts and a long sleeved shirt, I jumped in bed. The moment my head hit the pillow, it’s like a rush of thoughts was released, with the sole purpose of driving me absolutely crazy.
I tossed and turned for a while, in the hopes of tiring myself out and going to sleep, but no such luck. Eventually I let out a frustrated groan and got up.
There goes my nap.
Deciding it was no use to continue tossing and turning, I pulled open the drapes I had closed not even an hour ago, and allowed the remaining sunlight to shine through. Grabbing by backpack off the floor, I began digging through it and pulling out the books

and notebooks I needed for today. Brooke and Caroline had both given me their notes from
the lectures I missed this morning, so now seems as good a time as any to go through those.
I had just put away my history notes when I heard an insistent knock at the front door.
Glancing at the time, it was barely after five.
“I’m coming!” I shouted to whoever was on the other side.
Swinging the door open, I was greeted with a very pissed off Aiden. He didn’t even give me
a chance to say anything before he stormed past me. “What the hell?” I glared at him.
“Funny thing happened today.” He laughs sarcastically. “I was at practice, mindinding my own business, when Lucas asks me about your surgery Wednesday.”
Well shit.
“Of course I called him a dumbass, because the Scarlett I know isn’t getting surgery on
Wednesday.” He rubbed the back of his neck in irritation. “Right, Scarlett?”
I sighed and allowed my eyes to meet Aiden’s, who was staring at me like I had gone off the
deep end. “Lucas really really needs to learn to mind his own business.” I muttered.
And Caroline really needs to learn how to keep her big mouth shut!
“So it’s true?” He asks in disbelief.
“Yes.” I rolled my eyes at him as I walked past him into my room. I didn’t need to turn around to know he was following me.
“Are you fucking insane?”
“No – but clearly you are if you think you can come in here and talk to me like that.”
“Well excuse me if I’m a little shocked that my g-” He stopped himself.
“Aiden.” I gritted out.
“Who the hell just decides that they’re going to donate bone marrow out of the fucking blue? Do you even know the risks asso –”

I cut him off before he could go on. “I do not have to explain myself to you!”
“You’re right!” He snapped. “You don’t. But if you were smart you would listen to me before
making such a hasty and wreckless decision!”
“This isn’t a hasty decision you insufferable asshole! It’s for my sister!”
Aiden opened his mouth as if he were going to say something, but he closed it right back.
For the first time ever, I think I managed to stump him. “But… you don’t even have a sister.”
“Turns out that I do.” I grumbled bitterly. “I appreciate the concern Aiden – I really do, but
my mind is already made up.”
I had made a decision, and I was sticking to it.
“Fine – but will you at lea –”
“Great!” I said. “Then we’re on the same page.”

“On the same page?” Aiden snaps, his voice laced with disbelief. “We’re not even reading the same damn book. Hell, we’re not even in the same fucking library!”
Aiden is many things, but someone who lets his emotions get the best of him, he is not. I have to admit I was quite taken aback by his outburst, but not enough to back down.
“Look –” I took a deep breath. “You can either stay and distract me from freaking out, or you can get out. Those are your only two choices right now.”
