Chapter 142
She rambled on, “The two of you were really cute together. Sometimes we’d stay and watch Varsity play, and Aiden would always cheer for you when you made a save.”
Did he now, I thought. Mr. You Need to Keep Your Eye on the Ball and One Hundred More Squats.
“He’s also fucking hot.” Mia piped up.
“Um… than –”
Cheers erupted around us and I snapped my head towards the field to see Lucas jumping onto Aiden’s back a wide smile on his face as the rest of their teammates join them to celebrate. As Aiden’s walking towards the middle of the field waiting for the other team’s goalie to send the ball back into play, his eyes scan the bleachers until they landed on me. He sent me a smile and a wink before returning his attention back to the game.
“Awwww.” Mia and Daisy chorused together while Brooke sent me a knowing smirk.
An instant blush appears on my cheeks as I try to play off what just happened. I still wasn’t
used to all the PDA.
Four goals later – two more of which were Aiden’s – our half of the stadium erupted in cheers when the referee blew his whistle indicating the end of the second half. Mia and Daisy, who happily chatted with Brooke and I during the rest of the game, left with the others while the two of us stayed behind so we wouldn’t get trampled on by the dozens of people trying to make their way out of the stadium.
As Brooke and I finally make our way onto the field, Aiden walks towards me with a huge grin on his face. When I’m within arm’s reach, he opens his arms as if he’s about to hug me but I quickly step back. “You need a shower more than anything.” I scrunched up my nose.
“Don’t I at least get a kiss for winning?” He pouted.
Reaching up on my tiptoes, I plant a quick peck on his lips before jumping back. “Happy?”
He shrugged, contemplating my gesture. “You can make it up to me later.”

Chapter 142
“You two are sickeningly adorable.” Caroline huffed as she walked over to join the rest of us. Still dressed in her cheerleading outfit and carrying her pom–poms, she was the epitome of your stereotypical high school student.
Sometime, I can’t believe my best friend is actually a cheerleader.
“Don’t think I didn’t see you cheering for me babe.” Lucas turned towards her and wiggled his eyebrows at her suggestively.
“You wish!” Caroline exclaimed as she playfully flips him off.
“Don’t threaten me with a good time.” He smirked as he wrapped his arms around her waist and spun her around which caused Caroline to squeal loudly.
“They’re so cute.” I stare after them as Aiden shakes his head next to me.
“We’re cute.” Aiden nudged me playfully.
“Shut up.“I mumbled feeling the warmth rush to my cheeks.
“Have I told you how adorable you are when you blush?” His piercing gray eyes sparkle
with mischief under the harsh stadium lights as he wraps his arms around me. Leaning down, he captures my lips with his and I completely forget that we’re not alone as I allow him to lift me up and I instinctively wrap my legs around his waist.
“Thanks for coming in, Scarlett.” Dr. Benson flashed me a smile as he walked around his
desk and took a seat in the chair opposite me. His private office was just as clean and bleak
as the rest of the hospital.
The white walls were painfully plain, with a few diplomas here and there highlighting his accomplishments. In the middle of the room stood a large oak desk with two chairs positioned in front for guests. There was also a large book shelf behind him that housed various thick medical volumes. From what I could tell, his office was very impersonal.
There were no bright colors, no picture frames, nothing.
“Sure.” I smiled politely, eager for him to give me the all clear.
Despite the complications during the bone marrow extraction, they were hoping I would
still make a complete recovery within about a week. That did not go according to plan because as soon as I went back to school, I started feeling progressively worse. Exactly one

week from the procedure, I had spiked a fever and had to leave history before I threw up
all over Mrs. O’Conner’s classroom.
By the time I got back to class, Aiden had already texted my mom to pick me up and take
me to the doctor. He said, and I quote – “You were being stubborn, so I just went ahead and called Olivia to come pick you up.”
I was not happy with him at all that day, but it turns out he had every right to be
concerned. After mom picked me up, she drove us straight to Dr. Benson’s office where they
took blood and ran a bunch of tests. Turns out, I developed a slight infection because my
immune system was not as strong. They were also concerned about the nausea and headaches being side effects of the anaphylaxis.
Another night spent in the hospital and some antibiotics later, I was finally allowed to go
back home where my mom, Aiden, Caroline and Brooke refused to let me get out of bed
until I went back to the doctor and my results came back normal.
