Chapter 148
I couldn’t help but laugh at the last part. “When is he not in a mood.”
Grace chuckled. “Are you staying for dinner?”
“No thank you – I just ate.” I politely declined as she shrugged and went back into the
kitchen.
As I walked down the stairs and into the large open basement, I heard noise coming from down below. It sounded like someone was grunting and throwing something – repeatedly. When I took the final step off the stairs, I finally saw where all the noise was coming from.
Aiden stood in the middle of the room, wearing nothing but a pair of gray loosely fitted shorts, throwing punch after punch at an old and beat up black punching bag. I stood there for a good minute just taking in his appearance.
The muscles on his back contracted with each swing he took, and from the amount of sweat
on his bare back, it’s clear he’s been at this for a while. His face was also hard, and there was a permanent scowl on his otherwise handsome features. As he continued to take
another swing and hit, his eyes stared daggers at the poor punching bag.
I awkwardly cleared my throat in order to get his attention.
“What the fuck?” His head snapped up and he turned his attention towards me. Once his
eyes landed on me, his face softened and he stepped away from the punching bag, grabbing
the white towel that hung on the bench press. “Scarlett?”
“That’s me…” I mumbled, shifting my weight from one foot to the other. Why was I all of
sudden so nervous to see him?
Maybe it wasn’t such a good idea to just come over out of the blue, especially when he looks
like that.
“Are you finally talking to me?” He asked as he cautiously began inching closer to me.
“What does it look like?” I rolled my eyes when he came to a stop a few feet in front of me.

God, he looked even hotter up close.
It was his turn to roll his eyes now. “Can you really blame me for asking? I’ve been begging
you to talk to me for the past week!”
“Yeah well…” I shrugged as my eyes refused to meet his. “You deserved it!”
“I know what I did wasn’t exactly… the right way to approach it but ba –”
“Not the right way to approach it?” The words escaped my lips before I could control
myself. “Aiden, you went against my wishes!”
“Because I knew you could do it!” He let out a frustrated sigh. “I don’t understand why you
just can’t see how fucking amazing you truly are.”
“Because I’m nothing special!” I exclaimed.
My coming here to make amends was clearly not off to a good start.
In an instant Aiden had taken another step towards me and was now towering over. “Don’t
you ever say that again.” His voice is clipped and I swear I can feel him staring into my soul
with the way his eyes are focused on mine. “You are special.”
“I think the right word you’re looking for is flawed.” I scoffed, taking a step back from him.
“I came here tonight because… because I wanted to apologize for being such a bitch.”
I began pacing back and forth in front of him. “I know that your heart was in the right place, but that wasn’t the way to go about it. My reaction also could have used some improvement, but I can’t help it! I’m emotional, hot headed, and I don’t take the time to
think before I open my mouth. I have these crazy emotional outbursts and I can be a total
bitch without meaning to be one. Not to mention the fact that it’s so hard for me to trust that people actually have my best interest at heart. I have all of these faults, and for the life of me I can’t figure out why someone like you, would even look at someone like me.”
Aiden looked like he was going to say something but I continued. “I also care too much about other people’s opinion, because yes – I’m a people pleaser. Sue me! None of that is ever going to change about me. And I completely understand if you want to break up me because I don’t know what san” I’m cut off by his lips on mine.

“Breath, Scarlett.” He pulls back far enough to be able to capture my gaze. “Just breath… It’s

okay.”
But I was on a roll-
“I am so exhausted and stressed, and sometimes it just feels like I’m carrying the weight of the world around. I know that there are people worst off in the world and that I’m just being a whiny bitch right now, but I am exhausted!” It’s like the words are falling out of my mouth and I can’t seem to stop myself. “I am emotionally exhausted…” I whispered the last part as I took a deep breath.
His eyes never leave mine as his hand comes up to gently cup my cheek. “Baby, you’re not alone. I’m right here, and I promise I’m not going anywhere.”
