Chapter 151
“Honey,” She tried to hide her laugh unsuccessfully. “Don’t you think Scarlett can walk by
herself?”
“She can.” He nodded. “But she wants to be difficult today.”
“Well – okay.” Her laugh continued to fill the ground floor as Aiden reached the front door and stepped outside.
“I am going to kill you!” I hissed as I continued to trash in his grasp. It wasn’t until we reached his car that he placed me back on the ground.
“Get in.” He pointed to the driver’s side.
“No!” I folded my arms in defiance.
“Scarlett.”
“Aiden.”
“Get in the car.”
“No.”
“The more we sit here and argue, the more study time you lose.” He challenged.
Well, when he puts it like that…
“Fine!” I yanked the car key he was holding out from his index finger and situated myself in
the driver’s seat.
“Why must everything be a battle with you?” Aiden turned to me to ask once he was in the
car.
Adjusting the rearview mirror to my height, I smirked. “Because boring is overrated.”
In the short period that we have been dating, it’s been anything but boring.

Chapter 151
Although Aiden and I made up that night when I went over after dinner with Anthony, it
was not the end of our Stanford debate.
Oh no- it was just the beginning.
It seemed that the closer we got to May first, the more persistent Aiden became about me
accepting the spot for the fall.
Aiden was by far the biggest advocate for me attending. Citing that not only was it a dream
of mine, but that I’d be more or less naïve to turn it down and attend any other university I had gotten into. People like to say that the university you go to doesn’t play a major role in
your future employment, but I’m a firm believer that it does. At the end of the day, a Bachelor’s from Stanford will open more doors for you than a Bachelor’s from community college.
It’s not right, and it sucks – but it’s the cold hard truth. If I could change the rules I would,
but unfortunately that’s not how any of this works.
The offer was so tempting and for a while I thought I could hold out, but in the end I gave in. Not just to Aiden but to myself, my mom, Brooke, Caroline, and even Lucas.
A part of me still felt guilty, and I think I always will, but this was the opportunity of a life
time.
As everyone so graciously liked to point out, the application has been submitted and what was important was the Admission Office’s decision. I could always continue my bickering with Aiden for however long I wanted, however, the admission’s office wasn’t going to wait
forever.
“Where are we going?” I asked, turning the key in the ignition and listening to the soft
purring of the engine. I quickly realize that this is the first time that I’m the one in the
driver’s seat.
I actually thought that Aiden was bluffing when he said he’d let me drive his car.
“To get donuts and coffee.” He replied nonchalantly. “Oh, and pick up pizza on the way back otherwise I’m pretty sure Brooke will kick me out of my own room.”
“Coffee?” My ears perked at the mention of the aromatic and bitter concoction. “There’s a Starbucks right now the street from here.” I questioned, pulling out of his drive way. “Why

aren’t we walking down there?”
“We’re not going to Starbucks.” He said casually, typing on his phone. “Just get on Lake Shore Drive and I’ll tell you which exit to take.”
Caught up in the feel of leather interior under my touch and the smooth purring of the engine, I didn’t realize just how fast I was going.
“Hey babe,” Aiden voice pulled me out of my thoughts. Sparing a sideway glance at him, I saw him shifting uncomfortably in his seat and holding onto the armrest a little too tightly. “Could you please slow down?”
“What do you mean slow down?” I asked confused.
“You’re going ninety in a sixty…” I didn’t miss the way he nervously glanced between me and the open road in front of us.
Does he not trust me to drive?
“Oops.” I giggled as I eased my foot off the gas. Truth be told, driving calmed me down. Especially on days when my mind was in overdrive and I couldn’t seem to stop the voices in my head from butting heads.
It also helped that it was so nice out today. Spring was in full swing and the temperatures were well above seventy. As I drove further and further towards downtown, the sun was just beginning to set over Lake Michigan and the sky was a warm bright orange.
“I’m never letting you drive again.” I heard Aiden mutter from next to me.
“What was that?” I innocently asked, all too aware that the speedometer had risen back up to ninety and was slowly, but surely approaching a hundred.
“Nothing,” He shook his head. “I was just thinking how cute you are.”
I could feel the pink hue rise to my cheeks. “Shut up.” I mumbled keeping my eye trained on the road in front.
