Chapter 165
“It all went by too fast – probably a lot faster than any of us anticipated. I hope each and every one of you here today cherished these precious moments we have spent together because no matter how much you may want to, you can’t come back to high school. Whether we want to admit it or not, everything eventually ends. However, the end of one chapter is the beginning of another. Endings are inevitable and we must move forward
together. Today we say goodbye, but the memories we made will live with us forever.”
There go those damn tears again.
“Congratulations class of 2017.” Aiden concluded as the auditorium burst into applause and
he walked back to his seat.
“Are you crying?” Aiden asked when he took his seat.
“No!” I cleared my throat and whipped my eyes gently so as to not smear my makeup. “My allergies are acting up.”
Thank god for waterproof mascara.
“You’re not allergic to anything, babe.” He chuckled, grabbing my hand and intertwining our fingers together in his lap.
“Shh!” I brought my index finger up to my lips and pointed towards Mr. Peters who had started calling out names.
“Samantha Anderson.”
Well I guess this is it.
–
“Aisha Corrales”
This is the last time I’ll feel the blissful release that comes after finishing my last final or turning in my last paper for Mr. O’Conner, who has always been notorious of her exams.
“Aiden Cooper.”
The round of applause that echoed around the room were louder than the previous.

Chapter 165.
The last time that I drive away from campus as a student.
Countless crying sessions and about a dozen or so pints of ice cream later, I was finally
getting ready to walk the stage.
“Scarlett Dawson.”
I wish I could say I felt something when I moved the tassel from the right to the left when
Mr. Peters handed me my diploma, but in the blink of an eye the moment was over.
After everyone’s name had been called, it was Mr. Peters‘ turn to give the ending remarks.
“1
it depends on you, and it begins now. Go make some history class of 2017!”
Music erupted through the speakers as everyone stood up and began cheering.
‘Cause I’m on top of the world, ‘ey
I’m on top of the world, ‘ey
Waiting on this for a while now
Paying my dues to the dirt
I’ve been waiting to smile, ‘ey
Been holding it in for a while, ‘ey
Take it with me if I can
Been dreaming of this since a child
I’m on top of the world
Last week, homeroom teachers had been instructed to tell us that we’re not allowed to
throw our caps in the air because it was dangerous and someone might poke their eye out.
However, in this moment, none of us cared as hundreds of arms sung up and caps went
flying – far and high.
It was a right of passage if you will – and nobody was going to stop us.

“We did it!” I shouted over the loud music, turning to Aiden as a wide grin spread across my
face.
‘Cause I’m on top of the world, ‘ey
I’m on top of the world, ‘ey
Waiting on this for a while now
Paying my dues to the dirt
I’ve been waiting to smile, ‘ey
Been holding it in for a while, ‘ey
Take it with me if I can
Been dreaming of this since a child
And I know it’s hard when you’re falling down
And it’s a long way up when you hit the ground
Get up now, get up, get up now
“Yes we did” Aiden pursed his lips. Eyes glistening with mischief, he then reached for me and wrapped his arms my waist – lifting me off the ground and spinning me around. “I’m so proud of you, Princess.”
I let out an involuntary squeal, but continued to laugh as I moved my arms around his neck and gripped the back of his head on instinct. “And I’m proud of you.” My lips brushed his cheek as I continued to hold onto him.
After the ceremony, I had met up with Caroline and Brooke – and the three of us went to take pictures together. My mom was currently telling us how to pose when I felt something – or someone I should say -tug at my gown.
“Natty! Natty! Natty!” Looking down I was met with Mia’s wide grin.

“Mia!” Ella’s shrill voice followed shortly after. Lifting Mia up into my arms, I glanced up at
an out of breath Ella. “How many times have I told you not to run off like this!”
“But mama!” Mia pouted. “I just wanted to say hi to Natty!”
My heart.
“I don’t care if you were coming to say hi to Beyonce!” Ella scolded. “You do not run away
from me in a crowd like this.” Mia continued to stare at her mother, completely unphased.
“Hi Ella.” I chuckled.
“Hey girl!” She smiled, leaning in to give me a quick side hug. “I’m sorry
monster – she’s been driving me crazy about seeing you all day.”

little
Turning to the dozen or so pair of eyes looking at us amused, I said, “Everyone – this is
Aiden’s sister Ella, and her daughter Mia.”
