Chapter 61
“I don’t know who you are, but you are literally a godsend!” Ella exclaimed as she jumped from her seat to hug me. “I’ll pay you of course! Whatever you want.”
“Ella you can’t just a ” Aiden began protesting as the two of us followed his sister into the kitchen.
“I don’t mind.” I reassured them. “Really.”
“William and David have a game today at three.” Ella went on to explain her children’s schedule while rummaging through the fridge. All while Aiden was staring at me oddly.
I felt something tug at my legging, and when I looked down I saw Mia looking up at me expectantly. “Up! Up!” She said raising her arms. I took it as an indication to pick her up.
“Hi” I cooed at her. “I’m Scarlett.”
“I’m Mia.” She replied shily. “You’re pw–eatty.”
“Thank you.” I replied bopping her nose.
“Are you Ai–den’s girl–fwiend?” I chuckled at her as she stared at me with her big chocolate brown
eyes.
‘Okay, that’s enough.” Aiden came and swept Mai from my arms before I had a chance to reply. ‘Time for us to go. We’ll be late.”
‘We?” I cocked an eyebrow at him.
‘You don’t actually think I’d let you watch all of these monsters by yourself did you?” He smirked before turning towards his sister. “I’m taking your car,”
He didn’t even give me a chance to argue because he was already out the door.
After tucking all three kids into their respective car seats, Aiden opened the door for me and jogged o the driver’s side of the Range Rover.
‘You know, I only volunteered to watch three children today. Not four.” I smirked at him.
‘Very funny.” He replied sending me a sideways glance. “If I left you alone with the three of them,

you’d be ripping out your own hair ten minutes in. Don’t let their pretty smiles fool you. They’re evil.‘
“Oh come on! They can’t be that bad.”
He rolled his eyes. “When William was 3, David took a bunch of gum and stuck it to his hair. The poor guy was bald for like three months. Mia took a pair of scissors she found last Thanksgiving and completely tore apart my mom’s couch. Should I keep going?”
My eyes widened at what he just confessed. First of all, where did she just find a pair of scissors lying around?
“I wanna listen to Baby Shark uncle Ai–denn!” Mia yelled from the back. Aiden looked horrified at what she said, and all I could do was laugh. Baby Shark dance was every parent’s nightmare.
I smirked at him. “You heard the lady.”
He reluctantly pressed a few buttons on the car’s touch screen entertainment system.
Go, go, go, go
Go, go, go, go
Go, go, go, go
Go!

Baby shark!
Mia happily sang along with the song while the boys groaned about their sister being a baby. Not that she cared. Sometimes I marvel at how carefree children can be. What I wouldn’t do to go back
to feeling that way.
And let’s not forget about the naps! I can’t believe my mother ever had to beg me to take a nap.
By the time Aiden pulled into the park’s parking lot, I had gotten that stupid song stuck in my head.

While Aiden took the boys over to the make–shift soccer field and spoke to their coaches, I stayed back with Mia to grab a blanket so we could lay on the grass.
Despite it being late October, today was particularly warm and in the late sixties. Global warming, I tell you.
Once I had situated Mia on the blanket next to me, she took a red–haired doll out of her tiny
backpack and started playing with it while telling me various stories about her playdates. I tried to
keep up with her, and despite her being a very well–spoken two–year old, I could only make out parts
of what she was saying.
Sometime later, Aiden made his way towards us and sat with us for a bit. It was so adorable to see him interact with Mia. You could tell she had him wrapped around her tiny little finger. I’m pretty
sure that if she asked him to dress–up in a tutu and start twirling, he’d do it with minimal protesting.
It wasn’t just the way he was around Mia. It was strange to see him around kids altogether. He was
so attentive to what they said, so caring and loving. I knew that one–day he’d made a great father.
Woah there Scarlett! Let the man graduate high school first. He’s barely 18, for god sake.
I was pulled out of my thoughts by Aiden asking me a question. “What’s got you so deep in thought?”
Shaking my head, “Nothing. It’s just weird seeing you be so nice.”
“They’re kids. I can’t exactly expose them to my charming personality just yet.” He teased.
“You know, it wouldn’t hurt for you to be nicer to people. The only person who I’ve seen you is Lucas.” And you, my nagging subconscious reminded me.
