Chapter 65
After a few more snide comments from the elderly woman about my attitude, the matter had been settled and I was finally on my way home. At this point, all I can do is pray something doesn’t just drop from the sky and strike me because that would just be the cherry on top of the cake.
“I’m home!” I shouted to no one in particular as I dragged the grocery bags in after me. There was a
fifty–fifty chance my mom was already home.
“In here, honey.” I heard my mom’s voice ring out.
“A little help please!” I said, kicking the door closed behind me. Once I was well enough into the
apartment, I dropped all of the bags I was holding at once. Yes, I am one of those people who would
rather have circulation cut off then go back down to the car a second time.
“You went grocery shopping!” My mom exclaimed once she saw all of the bags.
“Yes.” I stated, taking my jacket off and hanging it up. “We need to eat, and I think the rotting lettuce in the fridge isn’t going to hold us over anymore.”
“Oh, hush.” She chuckeld, slapping my shoulder lightly. “I was going to go later today.”
Shrugging, “Now you don’t have to.”
“Also,” I continued. “You might want to sit down.”
She looked at me skeptically, but nevertheless took a seat on the couch. “I got into a car accident.” I
said.
“What?” She exclaimed. “Are you okay? Is the car okay?”
I rolled my eyes. “Yes, mom. We’re both okay. Just a bump on the back bumper.”
“How did it happen?” She asked.
“Some old lady hit me as I was coming out of the parking spot at Jewel.” I explained. “I swear it
wasn’t my fault! I would have seen her coming!”

“Here,” I continued as I handed her my phone to look at the pictures I took earlier today. “Her car barely has a scratch on it and I can live with the bumper looking like this.”
“You scared me.” She chastised. “Maybe next time, lead with the fact that it was a fender bender in
the parking lot of a grocery store!”
“I’ll talk to the insurance tomorrow and see what they say.” Mom said as she started unbagging the
groceries.
“Speaking of insurance people,” I said putting the milk in the fridge.
She raised a curious eyebrow and motioned for me to go on. “I went to drop off those papers you’ve been saying you’re going to drop off. And on the way back to the car, I fell and tripped on the stairs.”
Instead of being a caring mother and asking if I’m hurt, what does my mother do? She bursts out
laughing!
“Mom!” I laughed as well. “It’s not funny. It was so embarrassing. There were so many people that
saw me!”
“Honey, you’re just clumsy.” She replied, still laughing.
“Just wait until you hear about the rest of my day.” I rolled my eyes.
I was laying down in bed, surrounded by a mountain of blankets and watching a random movie on Netflix as I completed some biology homework, when my bedroom door burst open reveling Brooke
and Caroline.
“What are you guys doing here?” I asked, pausing the TV.
“Your mom let us in.” Brooke said, taking a seat on my bed next to me.
“We’re going to a party!” Caroline exclaimed.
“Excuse me?” I asked. “We?”
“Yes!” She said dropping a duffle bag on the floor. “Lucas invited us to this Halloween party he’s throwing tonight!”
“And what does this have to do with me?” I asked, bored. Parties were not my thing. In fact, I have

never been to a high school party, and I was perfectly content not going to one tonight either.
“Because you’re coming with us, silly!” She laughed.
It was my turn to laugh. “Care, what did I tell you before? If I’m already wearing pajamas, I’m not going anywhere unless it’s in said pajamas.”
Caroline jutst waved me off as she proceeded to walk over to my closet.
“Am I talking to myself?” I ask Brooke, hoping she’ll back me up here.
Brooke just shrugged her shoulders in response. “If she dragged me out of bed to go to this thing, you’re going as well.”
“But-“I began protesting as Caroline emerged from my closet with a long sleeved black bodycon dress. “This is perfect!” She exclaimed.
“Caroline!” I gave her a pointed look.
“Now –” She continued as she walked over to the duffle bag she brought with her. “Are we thinking cat ears or bunny ears?”
“Neither!” I exclaimed.
Brooke, meanwhile, took it upon herself to also answer. “Bunny.”
I turned to glare at her. “You are so not helping!”
“Bunny it is.” Caroline smirked as she shoved the dress and stupid bunny ears into my arms. “Now go change.”
“Care!” I whined. “I have had such a shitty day today. The last thing I want to do is go to a party and be surrounded by brainless jocks and bimbos.”
“Now you listen to me Scarlett Marie Dawson!” Caroline said, placing one hand on her shoulder and using the other to point at me. “You are a senior and you’ve never been to a party before! When one of the most popular guys in school personally invites you to his party, you don’t say no!”
