Chapter 87
This woman could give Kate Winslet a run for her money.
I quickly jumped to my feet and shook her extended hand. “I’m Scarlett – it’s really nice to meet you. Aiden and I were just studying!”
I could feel my heartbeat quicken as I saw her eyes dart between Aiden and I. I’m guessing this isn’t
the first time she’s walked in on Aiden alone in his room with a girl because she just smiled before
turning her attention back to her son. “I just wanted to let you know I was heading out. If Lucas
comes over again, tell him to leave my almond cake alone! I swear I’m going to ban that boy from
this house one day.”
I couldn’t help but chuckle at her Lucas comment. Sounds just like him.
Aiden shook his head. “Yes, mom.”
“Oh, I almost forgot –” Grace said turning back once she was at the door. “Ella wants to have everyone over for dinner tonight, can you come?”
Aiden shrugged in response. “Maybe. Tell her I’ll call her.”
She nodded. “It was nice to meet you Scarlett. You too kids be safe now.” With that she threw us a
smirk and closed the door behind her. Aiden snorted as he shouted, “Bye mom!”
It took me a minute to realize what she meant, and once I did I couldn’t meet Aiden’s intense gaze.
“Are you blushing, princess?”
“No!” I quickly replied as I bent down to pick up my laptop and walked over to the desk in the corner
of the room. “Anyway, I’m probably going to head out soon.”
“Don’t.” He dismissed.
I cocked a confused eyebrow at him. “Stay. We can work on some of those college application’s
you’ve been going on and on about.” He corrected himself awkwardly scratching the back of his
neck.
“Only if you promise to actually do some work instead of staring at the ceiling and talking my ear
off.” I shot back.

“Fineeee.” He dramatically sighed as he also opened his laptop.
Aiden managed to stay quiet for a whole fifteen minutes, which was longer than I expected. “Who did you have write you letters of recommendation?” He asked.
“I had Ms. Nguyen and Mrs. Meadows write me one, Coach Garcia said she’d also write me one but I haven’t gotten it from her yet. Oh, and Mr. Newman sent me his yesterday.” I replied. Typically, each university only asked for two, but I asked four different people to write me one in case some were
better than the others.
Mrs. Meadows was my guidance counselor since freshman year, so I think she knows me well
enough to be able to attest to my character. Then there was Mr. Newman the vice–principal. He’s coached our Academic Decathlon team for the past three years, and I figured his title as vice
principal would carry some lead way with the admissions people.
“Always the over achiever I see.” Aiden smirked.
“Shut up.” I said rolling my eyes at him.
I swear my eyes were going to get stuck to the back of my head one of these days.
“Oh Scarlettee.” I heard someone faintly say.
I then felt something tickling my nose. Trying to swot whatever was tickling me, the voice only
continued to grow louder.
“Wakey–wakey!”
“Dude, did you drug her or something?”
“Lucas, shut the fuck up.”
“What’s wrong with you Lucas?”
“What! She’s not waking up.”
Realizing that the voices weren’t going to stop any time soon, I finally opened my eyes and allowed my eyes to adjust to the light in the room.
Who’s room you might be asking? I’ll let you take a wild guess.

“Don’t you know it’s rude to be obnoxiously loud when people are sleeping?” I glared at Aiden and Lucas who were both standing in front of the bed I was still laying in.
My eyes went to everyone in the room until they landed on a pair of piercing blue eyes I couldn’t
quite place.
“Did you guys manage to wake her up?” Caroline’s high pitched voice said as she walked through the door with Brooke following shortly after.
“One of you has five seconds to tell me what the fuck is going on.” I stated throwing the covers off of me and standing up. The last thing I remember is arguing with Aiden about how he needed to focus. I must have fallen asleep shortly after, and everyone else showed up while I was asleep.
It still doesn’t explain why everyone was watching me sleep like some creepy fucking kidnappers,
but we’ll get to that.
“You were asleep when I got here.” Lucas replied. “You and Aiden must have been working really hard. You know, just the two of you.”
I was about to lunge at Lucas but Aiden beat me to it when he slapped the back of his head.
“Ouch!” Lucas yelled, rubbing the spot where Aiden hit him.
“Shut the fuck up.” Aiden growled.
‘Aiden, please.” Lucas hushed him. “I’m speaking.”
‘You didn’t seem like you were going to wake up any time soon, so I got bored and invited a few people over. I figured we could all do something fun.” Lucas continued.
