Chapter 92
Chapter 92
Following dare night, I found my mom still awake when I got home that night, sporting a very concerned expression on her face. She sat me down and gave me a whole talk about being responsible and always coming to her if I’m ever in trouble or need money.
It took some convincing, but I finally got her to understand it was just a stupid dare and that I haven’t gotten myself into any trouble, nor anything illegal.
“Unfortunately, there are no illegal activities involved this time.” Lucas replied solemnly. “The guys and I usually hang out on the last day of school before everyone heads off for the holidays. This year, I thought I would extend the invitation.”
“What guys?” Caroline perked.
“Me of course.” Lucas pointed to himself. “Aiden, Cody and Alex.”
Caroline turned towards me, “Nat, I’m sure your Netflix can wait. Pretty please with a cherry on top! I wanna hang out with Aiden’s sexy friends.”
Really subtle Caroline, real subtle.
“Fine.” I rolled my eyes at her. Then I turned to Lucas and pointed at him, “As long as there are no illegal activities involved this time.”
“I promise.” He smirked before turning his attention towards Caroline. Putting his arm around her shoulder he said, “You know, if you want to hang out with me, all you have to do is ask Caroline.”
“I don’t bite.” He added causing Caroline’s face to turn beet red.
Brooke and I just watched amused as Caroline patted his shoulder sympathetically before walking in front of him out towards the parking lot. “I wasn’t talking about you.”
“You say that now, cupcake!” Lucas shouted after her.
As soon as I stepped foot outside the school building, I was immediately hit with the sharp December wind. Zipping my jacket up and wrapping the long scarf I had on tightly around, I tried to conceal as much of my body heat as possible.
I was too focused on my conversation with Brooke and not freezing to death, that I didn’t notice

Lucas and Caroline had stopped walking. Completely taken off guard by the sudden halt, I bumped into someone and stumbled back, but luckily a pair of strong arms wrapped around my waist and prevented yet another dear death experience due to my short attention spam and clumsiness.
Looking up, I was met with a pair of oddly familiar intense dark brown eyes. Once I was finally on my feet again, I looked up at the handsome stranger who had broken my fall and took in his appearance. He was tall, much taller than me anyway, with a lean built and a well–defined jaw line. His hair was styled perfectly in a comb–over hairstyle, and the longer I stared at him, the more I began to recognize his distinct features.
“I’m Alex.” He smirked down at me. Ah yes – Alexander Jackson – our hotshot baseball pitcher. I almost didn’t recognize him without a shirt on. Every once in a while, Caroline will drag me with her to a baseball game to stare at the boys‘ asses, and I distinctly remember Alex as the one always
taking his shirt off after a game.
–
“Scarlett.” I give him a small smile before turning my attention to the rest of the group. We were all sitting around by Lucas and Aiden’s cars. Speaking of Aiden – he was glaring daggers at Alex who was still standing next to me. When I finally caught his attention, I gave him a questioning look to which he chose to reply to with a head shake.
He’s so weird sometimes.
When I heard Lucas mention downtown, I focused my attention on him.
་་
– we can all just drive there together.” I caught the last bit of his speech.
“What about our cars?” I questioned. Brooke, Caroline and I had all driven to school this morning
and I was not about to come back here later tonight just to get my car.
After everyone just awkwardly stared at one another for a while, Aiden finally spoke up. “I live the closest to school, everyone can just drop off their cars at my place and then we can take my car and
Lucas’s. We should all fit in two cars.”
Everyone seemed to be in agreement, and soon we were all standing in front of Aiden’s driveway trying to figure out seating arrangements.
“My car is bigger so I can fit more people.” Lucas argued. Cody and Alex had both decided to ride with Lucas because according to them he had better music taste than Aiden, which left the question
of me, Brooke, and Caroline. At this point, I didn’t care who was driving, as long as they had heat in
the car.
“Caroline can ride with me.” Lucas declared afterwards. “That leaves Brooke and Scarlett with

Aiden.”
“Like hell she is.” I fired back. There was no way in hell I was leaving Caroline alone with the three
of them. I have no doubt that she can take care of herself, my fear is her and Lucas’s bickering is going to get them all killed by the time we get to our destination. Their bickering had gotten
increasingly worse since the Halloween party.
“I’ll
go
with her.” Brooke reassured me. “There’s plenty of room.”
