Chapter 94
Even after the hot chocolate Caroline and I went to get for everyone, I could still barely feel my skin from the cold breeze. We were right by the lake front and the wind was blowing like crazy.
Finally on the ice, I was holding on to the edge of the rink for dear life. To say I was rusty, would be the understatement of the century.
I watched in envy as Caroline, Lucas, Cody, Alex and Aiden all skated smoothly. Brooke felt bad for me so she decided to stick close and hold my hand so that I wouldn’t fall, but even she was having a hard time not laughing at me.
“I’ve got her Brooke,” Aiden said as he came to a smooth stop in front of us. “Caroline is asking for you.”
“If you say so.” Brooke grinned before sending me a quick wink skating away.
Traitor!
Aiden then proceeded to extended both of his arms out to me, motioning for me to take them. I looked at him hesitantly, but nevertheless obliged unless I wanted to sit here all night until our time in the rink was over.
“Is there an athletic activity that you can’t do?” I grumbled as he pulled me with him away from the spot I was previously frozen in.
“No there isn’t, but what I specialize in is s
་་
I didn’t give him a chance to finish that sentence. “Lalalala!” I sang, letting go of his hand to cover my ears which ultimately turned out to be a bad idea since I landed flat on my ass shortly after.
“Ow!” I cried out,
“Are you okay?” Aiden managed to get out in between fits of laughter.
“This isn’t funny!” I yelled at him as I attempted to stand up only to fall back again. This was also totally the wrong day to wear jeans.
I contemplated getting on all fours to try and raise myself, but luckily I didn’t need to be that desperate because Aiden took pity on me and wrapped his arms around my waist to help me stand

- up.
For the remainder of the evening, we caught up with the rest of the group. Caroline was adamant on showing off her years of ice skating when she was little, and apparently Lucas and Alex dabbed in ice hockey for a while so they was pretty good too.
Me? Well for the remainder of the evening, I never once let go of Aiden’s hand until I was safely on solid ground where I wouldn’t have to worry about slipping and falling to my death.
Everyone was hungry after, so we all decided to get some Pizza at a cute little restaurant in Lincoln
Park. Although the pizza was mediocre, the atmosphere was really cute. The place had a wooden cabin vibe to it with thousands of fairy lights hanging from the ceiling. My favorite part was the large neon sign that read: I could give up pizza, but I’m not a quitter.
Halfway through dinner, Caroline all of a sudden says she has to leave because her mom texted her
to get home. Lucas being the gentleman that he is, offered to give her a ride since Alex’s girlfriend was picking him up from the restaurant, leaving just me, Brooke, Cody and Aiden who can all fit in
Aiden’s car. Convenient and suspicious if you ask me because I know damn well Caroline’s mom is
currently out of the country until Sunday.
As I watch Caroline and Lucas leave together, I turn towards Brooke. “Don’t you think those two
have been spending an awfully lot of time together, lately?”
‘That’s an understatement.” Brooke snorted taking a sip of her milkshake.
[ narrowed my eyes at her. “Do you know something?”
‘Me?” She feigned ignorance.
‘Yes.”
‘I don’t know anything.” She smirked putting her arms up in surrender. “Why don’t you ask Caroline
why they’ve been hanging out so much lately.”
‘I will!” I replied narrowing my eyes in slits at her. She knew something she wasn’t telling me.
Before I could probe Brooke any further, I felt my phone begin to vibrate in my back pocket. Although I didn’t recognize the number, I chose to answer in case it was someone important. Worst case scenario- it’s one of those spam–robo calls warning me that my vehicle warranty is about I expire, and I just hang up.
“Hello?” I laugh trying to swot Aiden’s hand away from my uneaten pizza crust. This boy had no

shame – he had an entire slice right in front of him!
“Scarlett?” Came a deep male voice on the other end.
“Yes?” Although I didn’t recognize the number, the person calling clearly seemed to know who I was. “Who’s this?”
I heard the person on the other end take a deep breath, and exhale before replying. “It’s your father.”
My father?
I felt the blood drain from my face when I connected the dots.
“I’m sorry, you have the wrong number.” I hastily hung up and put my phone back in my pocket.
“You okay?” Aiden asked from across the table, searching my face for what was wrong.
“Never been better.” I replied, forcing a smile on my face.
