Chapter 97
Sneaky bastard.
“This is too much.” I gaped at her. “Do you have any idea how expensive Tiffany’s is!”
“Trust me,” she smirked. “I know, honey.”
Later that day, I may or may not have let curiosity get the best of me and went on the Tiffany’s website. To say I nearly stopped breathing when I saw the prices, would be an understatement.
I quickly picked up my phone to text Aiden, when I saw I already had a message from him.
Aiden: Merry Christmas???
Seriously! Is he off his meds or something?
Scarlett: Are you crazy?
Aiden: Yes.
Aiden: I take it your mom gave you my present.
Scarlett: YES!
Scarlett: And you’re taking it right back as soon as you get back!
Aiden: No I’m not, princess?
Scarlett: Yes you are.
Aiden: Nope!
Scarlett: Aiden, stop being so infuriating. I’m serious.
Aiden: As am I.
Scarlett: You’re taking it back.

Chapter 97
Aiden: No I’m not.
Aiden: Now stop complaining, and just put them on.
He is absolutely ridiculous! Some people don’t even make that much money is six months!
I had to give up my argument with Aiden when mom called me. “Scarlett, get the door please.”
It’s show time.
Earlier in the day, mom had given me a bit of background information on Anthony. Apparently he’s
a senior account manager at the same firm where she works. The two of them started out as friends
until he finally asked her out on Valentine’s Day.
Swinging the door open, I was greeted by a man holding a rather large bouquet of red roses and a
gift bag. “Hi!” I smiled warmly up at him. He was wearing a pair of black slacks and maroon
sweater. “You must be Anthony. Come in, I’m Scarlett!”
“Anthony.” He returned my smile with a nervous one of his own. “It’s really nice to meet you.” Although Anthony was a bit taller than me, it wasn’t by much. He was, however, very lean and it was
clear he must be a frequent gym goer unlike myself. His dark brown hair gave no indication that it
was graying, and his light blue eyes were warm and inviting. All in all, I’d have to say mom had done pretty well for herself.
He let out a visible sigh of relief when he saw my mom coming towards us. “These are for you.” He
handed her the bouquet of roses and gently kissed her on the cheek.
“Your mom told me you like to read.” He hesitates as he hands me a small rectangular wrapped
present. “If you don’t like it, there’s a gift receipt in there.”
“Thank you.” I gave him an encouraging smile. Hopefully mom didn’t let it slip that I’m one of the pickiest people alive, because at the end of the day, it’s the thought that counts. Even if I hate what he got me, I wasn’t about to let him know or exchange it – that would be rude. “I’m sure I’ll love it.”
After we all sat down for dinner that night, I figured this was as good a time as any to get to know Anthony better. “So, Anthony.” I took a bite of the roast chicken. “What are you intentions with my
mother.”
–
I watched him visibly gulp and almost choke on his water – poor guy.
Let the interrogation commence.

Chapter 97
Coming back to school from winter break was an adjustment. In fact, it took me an entire week to get used to the routine of waking up for school every morning again.
I’ll admit, perhaps staying up until 3 am watching Netflix wasn’t the smartest idea, but can you blame me? Schitt’s Creek was too hilarious to just stop watching after one season.
The post winter break slump could be felt all around, not just within the students. The teachers were taking longer to start the lectures, even having an extra cup of coffee in the afternoon. However, that didn’t stop them from beginning to file on the work on the first day back. A quote on quote countdown, had begun until the AP exams. We weren’t so much learning new content as we were reviewing old stuff the majority of us had forgotten.
Whoever’s idea it was to make AP exams 4 hours long each, has a special place reserved in hell.
It was lunch time and this semester, Caroline, Brooke and I were trying out something different. When I wasn’t in the library during lunch, I sat with Brooke and Caroline at a small table in the cafeteria’s corner. However, after Caroline finally came clean about her and Lucas, she decided to take him up on his offer and sit with him at lunch. By default, that meant that Brooke and I also had to go sit at Lucas’s table because what kind of best friends would we be if we didn’t. Her words, not
mine.
Now, this is in no way, shape, or form an indication that they are official – as Caroline put it. According to her, she wasn’t ready for anything serious but she also wanted to know what it was like to sit at the table with all the cool kids. Despite being a cheerleader all throughout high school, she wasn’t the most popular girl in school on account of her very bubbly and blunt personality which most took offense to. So being invited to sit with the cool kids, was a big step for her.
