Chapter 98
Having already finished eating, I was trying to finish the worksheet Ms. O’Conner handed out earlier, but Aiden seemed to be in the mood to play footsie with me under the table.
Speaking of Aiden, I spent the whole two weeks of winter break trying to convince him to return the Tiffany’s jewelry he got me for Christmas. Every time I brought it up, he would give me the same one word reply: Nope!
I reluctantly gave up seeing as to how he clearly wasn’t going to budge and I was ready to jump through the phone and knock some sense into him. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the earrings and necklace – I just don’t love how much money he spent on it. However, since Aiden wan’t budging on returning them, I ended up giving into the selfish voice in my head and started wearing them. It was kind of hard to take them off after.
When Aiden saw me this morning, his eyes immediately caught sight of the earrings and the necklace around my neck. I too didn’t miss the look on his face when he did, and he seemed to be in
an even better mood since.
‘Will you quit it!” I hissed. “I’m trying to do something here!”
‘Boo!” He pouted. “Just do it later.”
Not bothering to reply to him, I just glared and returned to my work. While he had stopped playing
footsie with me, his phone – which was on the table – kept going off like crazy.
Releasing a sigh of frustration, I set my pencil down and looked up at him expectantly. “Are you going to get that?”
“Nope!” He grinned at me.

“Aiden answer the fucking phone before I throw it out the window.” I gritted out.

Chapter 98
“Hello?” I watched his playful expression go from that to worried in a matter of seconds. “Right
now?”
He nodded a couple of time before asking, “Where?”
The anticipation of wanting to know what is going on was killing me.
Damn that nosiness of mine.
In the short while that I have known Aiden, I’ve come to the realization that there are very few
things that can rattle him, and whatever that phone call was about, was one of them.
“Is everything okay?” I asked once he had hung up.
“Ella got rushed into an emergency C–Section.” He lets out.
“What?” I shrieked causing the others at the table to turn and look at us. “Is she okay? Why are you
still here?”
“I have an idea.” Aiden stated, grabbing my long forgotten worksheet and shoving it into my bookbag. Turning to the curious pairs of eyes still watching us, he said “We’ll see you guys later.”
He took my hand and led me out of the cafeteria. “Come with me.”
“Aiden, where are we going?” I asked trying to keep up with him. “7th Period is just about to start.”
“Do you trust me?” He stops to look down at me.
I opened my mouth to reply, but nothing came out.
Do I trust him?
I looked up at his beautiful grey orbs and his stupidly handsome face. A year ago, this wouldn’t even have been on my mind, let alone an actual question. Yet here we are today, me and Aiden standing in an empty hallway and me replying, “Yes.”
That’s all Aiden needed as he whisked me away with him out the back entrance and across the parking lot to his car.
God, I can’t believe I’m doing this right now. There were still two hours of school left and not to mention I didn’t have any of my school books except for what was in my backpack, or my jacket for
that matter.

Chapter 98
The old Scarlett is rolling over in her grave right now!
After a very quick ride in which Aiden broke more traffic laws than I could count, we finally
reached Northwestern Memorial Hospital. It was located right at the heart of downtown, and it looked like anything but a hospital.
Situated in between a tall skyscraper and another large university building, the hospital shone in the
bright sunlight, a large purple letter M standing out distinctly in the right hand corner. The reception
area wasn’t any less impressive than the outside, and it looked more like the interior of a hotel than
a hospital. Large gray slabs of tiles decorated the lobby while a large wooden receptionists desk
stood in front of us.
After getting Ella’s room number, Aiden and I made our way up to the 18th floor where we found
Grace pacing the hallways and typing away on her phone furiously.
“Mom.” Aiden greeted as the two of us made our way to her. When she saw Aiden, she looked visibly relieved and gave him a quick side hug. “Aiden, honey.”
“And Scarlett.” Her eyes widened when she saw me, but nevertheless smiled at me.
How is she so calm right now, is what I want to know.
“Hi Mrs. Cooper.” I returned her smile.
“What happened?” Aiden asks.
“Everything was fine. She started having contractions this morning, so I drove her here. But after her
water broke, she started bleeding and they couldn’t find the baby’s heartbeat.” Her voice trembled
with sorrow.
