Over the next two to three days, Celeste was fully occupied with matters related to the smart traffic project. To ensure there were no flaws in her proposal, she even went out several times for on–site inspections.
In the end, she successfully submitted the bidding documents before the deadline.
When Matthias received the news, he smiled and texted her. “Good job”
He had also been quite busy these past few days.
In addition to overseeing internal affairs and the collaboration with Fleming Group, he also attended two banquets.
After the banquets, several executives from autonomous vehicle companies reached out to him.
He planned to gather more information about these companies before making any decisions.
In the meantime, the collaboration between YodaVision and Fleming Group was going smoothly. They had already entered the next phase of cooperation.
To celebrate this positive partnership, Trevor personally invited Matthias and another partner to dinner.
When Matthias replied to Celeste’s message, the dinner was nearly over.
Though Matthias disliked Trevor, he had to admit that Fleming Tech deserved its reputation as one of the top tech companies in
the country.
Their team was indeed talented, and working with their engineers had been a pleasant experience overall.
However, there were also less pleasant moments–like running into people from the Lockets and the Shaws.
Matthias couldn’t even be bothered to greet them and left first.
Watching him walk away, Linda smirked and leaned toward Wynn, whispering, “Ever since Trev’s company started working with YodaVision, that bitch has been running around like she’s indispensable to the collaboration between YodaVision and Fleming Group.
“But she’s suddenly vanished these past couple of days. Barely seen her at all. Maybe she finally realized something?”
Naturally, she was referring to the fact that Trevor had given InnovaTech to Wynn and that the autonomous vehicle project which was now developing rapidly and receiving glowing praise from the industry.
After Trevor left, Linda chuckled smugly again and said, “So what if Celeste works hard? No matter how hard she tries, Matthias will never give her a company worth billions. 2
“She could work her entire life and still never reach the starting point you had!
“I mean, she schemed her way into marrying Trev and even had a child, but in the end, the assets she walked away with don’t even compare to what he casually gave you. Hilarious!
“If I were her, I’d be devastated too, knowing Trev gave you that much money without a second thought.”
Wynn only smiled faintly without responding.
Truth be told, she had been somewhat uneasy before–seeing just how capable Celeste was.
But as Linda pointed out, Celeste had gone to great lengths to get close to Matthias and invested so much. Yet, what had she gained in return?
Even if her skills had improved, even if she had connections like Matthias and Zachary, how long would it take for her to reach Wynn’s level of wealth and power? (2
Ruby also laughed and added, “Well, there’s just a huge gap between people.” 3
No matter what Celeste did, she simply couldn’t compare to Wynn 1
Howard didn’t say anything, but silently agreed. That was why even if she had tried so hard for so long, it still amounted to nothing.
That very evening, Celeste and Matthias had dinner with an executive from an autonomous vehicle company.
After several days, the bidding results for the smart traffic project would finally be announced.
On the day of the announcement, Wynn accompanied Howard to the venue. They arrived fairly early and were feeling confident about their chances.
As a result, they chatted easily with the other bidding participants, smiling and relaxed.
Celeste and Matthias were the last to arrive.
When Wynn and Howard saw them, they froze.
As far as they knew, YodaVision hadn’t participated in this bid. So, why were they here?
But the fact that Celeste and Matthias showed up could only mean one thing.
In that moment of realization, the confidence and ease on Wynn and Howard’s faces vanished. Because in front of YodaVision, even with Trevor’s backing, their odds of winning were slim. 1
It was then that they both suddenly understood why Celeste hadn’t been showing up at Fleming Group recently.
Without acknowledging Wynn or Howard, Celeste and Matthias walked straight past them and took their seats amidst the astonished crowd.
