Garth’s heart sank abruptly. He stormed into the room and demanded, “Tuesday, who were you talking to on the phone?” Startled, Tuesday quickly hid her phone and turned to face him. “Garth, when did you come in?
“If I hadn’t come in, I wouldn’t have known you had another son,” he said coldly
Garth had already been suspicious of Tuesday’s sudden return, sensing there was more to it than met the eye. Overhearing her phone call only deepened his unease.
“Tell me the truth. Who were you talking to just now? Did you get married and have a child in Forreb? If that’s the case, why come back here? Why do you want to take Cassian away?” His questions came rapid–fire, his tone sharp and unrelenting. Tuesday felt a wave of panic but forced herself to stay calm. She managed a faint smile and said, “Garth, calm down. It’s not what you think. Yes, I do have a son in Forreb,”
Seeing his expression darken, she quickly added, “But he’s adopted. I’ve never been married there. I’ve been living alone all this time, and that child has been my only companion.
“But no matter how close we are, he’s not my flesh and blood. My true wish is to bring Cassian to Vyrdenia, to give him a better life. That’s why I went through so much trouble to get permission to return.”
She continued, “Garth, during my time in Forreb, I thought about you and Cassian every single day. But it’s incredibly difficult to connect with this world from there.
“It’s only in recent years, as conditions improved, that I was able to start applying for the necessary documents. Even then, it took me three full years to get approval.”
She even sobbed slightly. “I want Cassian to inherit my company there and have a brighter future. This is my wish as his mother. I hope you can understand.
“Garth, even if you can’t forgive me, please don’t stop me from doing what’s best for Cassian. Can you?”
Her heartfelt words seemed to soften Garth’s resolve, if only a little. “So, you were just on the phone with your adopted son?” “That’s right. He’s a good kid and listens well. I’ve already told him he has two older brothers and a sister, so you don’t need to worry. He won’t compete with Cassian for anything,” she said.
“Are you sure he won’t give Cassian a hard time?” Garth was skeptical.
“Of course not. Cassian is my own son; how could I let anyone bully him?” she promised.
Seizing the moment, Tuesday quickly added, “Cassian doesn’t really feel close to me, so he probably won’t listen to what I say. But you’re different. You’re his father. If you talk to him, he’ll definitely think it over.”
Garth studied her carefully. She didn’t seem to be lying, and after all, she was Cassian’s biological mother. It was hard to believe she’d want to harm him.
He sighed and said, “Looking at the situation now, it does seem like the best choice for Cassian to go back with you. But he‘ s really attached to Raven right now, so it’s understandable if he struggles to make that decision.”
“Raven?” Tuesday thought for a moment before asking, “You mean Cassian’s fiancée, right? What kind of girl is she?” “Raven’s an exceptional young woman. She’s a great match for Cassian in every way. But she is a bit stubborn, and she tends to rub people the wrong way,” he explained.
Garth sighed again, “Anyway, let’s not dwell on that. I’ll do my best to talk to Cassian and convince him to go back with you.” He chose not to bring up Raven’s recent troubles with George or her expulsion from Vyrdenia Military. It didn’t feel right to speak ill of her in front of Tuesday.
Just then, his phone lit up with a text from an unknown number. When he opened it, his jaw nearly dropped, a provocative photo stared back at him.
