“Cassian, are you asking me to take the risk?” Tuesday said, her expression deep and hurtful, as if Cassian standing before her were a rebellious, ungrateful child.
“My heart doesn’t match Felipe’s,” Cassian said coldly. “Even if I wanted to, I couldn’t do it. So, you’re asking me to take the risk. Truly, you’re such a great mother.”
“Alright, Cassian, I know you might not be able to accept this right now, but the ontway to help me through this crisis is to give your heart to Felipe. I struggled to bring you into this world, and while I never asked for anything in return, now that I’m in trouble, can’t you help me? Besides, Felipe is your brother!”
“He’s not my brother,” Cassian said coldly. “I don’t have a brother.”
“Cassian, how can you say that?” Tuesday’s eyes widened, a flash of anger rising in them. “Felipe is your biological brother! That’s enough. Stay here and think things through. Don’t bother coming out if you can’t figure it out!” Without glancing at Cassian, she turned on her heel and stormed out, slamming the door.
After she came downstairs, she found Mack Cherry and Felipe sitting in the living room. The moment Mack saw Tuesday, he immediately asked, “Well? How did it go? Did he agree to give Felipe his heart?
“Felipe’s condition has been worsening by the day,” Mack said gravely. “And soon, all the major families in Frihamen City will be hosting the Blossom Festival to find marriage matches for their eligible heirs. He might still make it in time if Felipe’s surgery goes well. And if Jaida Larsson takes a liking to him, his future could be set–he could rise to the top overnight!” Mack had carefully strategized long before permitting Tuesday to retrieve Cassian from the lower realm. If Cassian proved incompatible as a donor for Felipe, the alternative plan was to secure a political marriage by having him join another influential household, thereby strengthening the Cherry family’s alliances.
However, upon arriving in Forreb, Cassian underwent a medical evaluation, and it was revealed that his heart was a suitable match for Felipe. This discovery led Mack to revise his plans. Once Felipe regained his health, it would be of no further use for Cassian, an outsider from the lower realm, to be married off into another family as part of a political alliance.
With Felipe’s looks and abilities, he was bound to attract the attention of many prestigious young heiresses. Even marrying into the Larsson family wasn’t out of the question.
“Dad, Felipe’s condition isn’t at the point where a heart transplant is necessary yet.” Tuesday had been so forceful with Cassian earlier, but it was more out of frustration with his defiance than genuine concern for Felipe’s health.
However, Cassian was still her biological son, and if there had been a better solution, she would have pursued it. Even though Cassian’s heart was a compatible match for Felipe, the surgery still carried risks. If the procedure failed, Felipe’s life would be in jeopardy.
Mack’s gaze turned cold, his sharp eyes fixed on her. “What are you trying to say? Are you having doubts? Hesitating to let your son from the lower realm give Felipe his heart? Think carefully, Tuesday. The life you live now and the comforts you enjoy are all because of the Cherry family. It’s time for you to repay that debt.”
“Mom, could you bear to let me keep enduring the pain from these heart attacks?” Felipe frowned, clearly frustrated with Tuesday’s indecisiveness.
“Dad, you’ve misunderstood. Felipe is my dearest son; how could I possibly not want to help him?” Tuesday forced a smile, continuing to explain, “It’s just that while the doctors here can’t treat Felipe’s illness, I’m sure in the secondary cities, there are methods to cure him without needing a heart transplant.
“After the upcoming Blossom Festival, when important guests arrive, we might meet a skilled doctor who can cure Felipe. That way, Felipe won’t have to endure the pain of surgery. And keeping Cassian around would benefit the Cherry family even more. Sending him into a marriage alliance would give our family another reliable ally.”
Tuesday continued, “Moreover, if we don’t let Cassian perform the heart transplant for Felipe, he will definitely be grateful to us and will surely work hard for our family.
