“So what if he’s good–looking? Those heiresses would never spare a glance at someone of such low status, Felipe scoffed, his tone laced with jealousy. Compared to Cassian, his looks were nothing remarkable. If Cassian were to show up at the Blossom Festival, he would undoubtedly steal all the attention.
Mack didn’t seem too supportive of the idea either. “Indeed, no matter how handsome Cassian may be, someone of such humble background is hardly worth noticing. And do you think it’s easy to find a physician in the secondary cities? People of their stature wouldn’t bother setting foot in a place like Frihamen City.
“Unless the Larsson family steps in and sends a formal invitation, asking them to come treat Felipe, there’s no way they’d agree. Given the Cherry family’s status, how could we persuade someone like that to get involved?”
It seemed Mack had just thought of something, and his gaze softened as he looked at Felipe. “Felipe, when the Blossom Festival comes, you must do your best to impress Jaida.
“I’ve made some inquiries–Janelle has become the disciple of a highly esteemed figure in Deariton. That mentor isn’t just anyone. It won’t be long before the Larsson family’s standing rises significantly because of it.
“Once the Larsson family aligns with that influential figure from Deariton, they might even qualify to move near primary cities. And if we can form a marriage alliance with them, we’ll earn our place among the elite. Let’s see who would dare look down on us then.”
Mack had always been self–conscious about his background as a businessman. The Cherry family’s assets ranked among the top twenty in Frihamen City, yet their lack of noble lineage and historical standing meant other families frequently looked down upon them.
Take the Chavez family, for example, which was descended from three generations of officials. Even in decline, they still saw themselves as aristocrats and privately mocked Mack as nothing more than a nouveau riche merchant with no class. Mack had once hoped Leonard would marry a well–bred heiress, hoping it would finally earn their family some respect. But Leonard had been stubborn, insisting on marrying Tuesday, who was in the lower realm. Now, Mack’s aspirations rested solely on his grandson, Felipe.
Hearing Mack’s words, Felipe’s eyes lit up with excitement and longing. The Larsson family was the first in Frihamen City to have a real shot at rising beyond their current standing.
Being chosen as a disciple by someone of such stature from Deariton meant they now had the credentials to move up from a tertiary city to a near–primary one–or even a provincial one.
He eagerly looked forward to the upcoming Blossom Festival. Whether Jaida was as beautiful and talented as rumored, or even if she were an unattractive woman, he was determined to win her favor and ensure her approval.
“Grandpa, I won’t disappoint you. I’ll do my best to win Jaida’s favor and elevate the status of our Cherry family. I’m not like those people from the lower realm who are only good for their healthy hearts and little else.”
When Felipe mentioned Cassian, a surge of jealousy flashed in his eyes. ‘That lowborn commoner thinks he can stand on equal footing with me? He can forget it!‘ he thought.
What Felipe didn’t know was that his jealous display had been fully observed by Cassian, who stood quietly at the corner on the second floor. After Tuesday left, Cassian had silently stepped out of the room. He had heard every word of the conversation between Mack and Felipe.
Realizing there was nothing more useful to be gained from their conversation, Cassian calmly returned to his room. ‘The Larsson family is connected to someone from Deariton, but why haven’t I heard of anyone in Deariton taking on a disciple from tertiary cities?‘ he wondered.
