As Tuesday was pacing anxiously, Raven had already checked into a hotel in Frihamnen City. The moment she entered her room, her phone rang.
It was a call from Julio. “Miss Valor, I’ve arranged a meeting between you and Tuesday for tonight,” he said politely.
“Thank you so much, Mr. Sutton.” Raven knew exactly why Cassian had left, and she couldn’t let him face this alone. His relentless pursuit of strength had been for her, and now his symptoms were partly her responsibility.
If she couldn’t find a way to merge his various personalities, the weaker one might put him in grave danger, so she had to reach him as soon as possible.
“Not a big deal. Don’t mention it, Miss Valor. If you ever need my help again, just call me. I’ll do whatever I can.” Julio had initially hesitated to assist her, but after witnessing her medical skills on the spatial vessel, he saw potential value in befriending her. He had no desire to see her come to harm, and that was why he had risked facilitating this meeting.
He paused, choosing his words carefully. “But Miss Valor, there’s something I feel I should remind you.”
“Please go ahead,” Raven replied, already guessing his concerns.
He started, “At the checkpoint today, you shouldn’t have resisted them. You’re new to Forreb and don’t understand the Cloudshadow Sect’s influence. Their power spans the entire nation, and crossing them will only bring you trouble. It’s serious. I’m not scaring you.
“If you encounter them again, swallow your pride and make an apology. They might spare you out of respect for talent. A young woman like you has enough challenges here even without making enemies of the Cloudshadow Sect.
“I’m old enough to be your uncle, so I find it necessary to remind you that sometimes bending doesn’t mean weakness. Preserving yourself matters more than pride.
Raven knew his advice came from goodwill. After all, they were strangers, or he had gone out of his way to help her find Cassian. She nodded and said in a grateful tone, “I appreciate your concern, but I won’t apologize for doing nothing wrong. But never mind. If they insist on targeting me, I won’t drag you into it.”
“That’s not what I meant. I’m not worried about being implicated,” Julio flustered. “Just think it over. And whatever you do, don’t act recklessly.
“By the way, I’ve reserved a table at Fortuna Hotel in Frihamen and arranged for Mr. Lysander to meet you there. The hotel’s owner has powerful connections, so behave yourself and avoid causing any scenes.”
Hanging up, Raven exhaled. She had never heard of the Cloudshadow Sect before, nor how it had risen to such infamy during her years away. But if they provoked her, she wouldn’t back down. She had been born again, so she would never tolerate bullies.
For now, though, locating Cassian lifted a weight off her chest. Tonight, she had learn just how severe his dissociation was and why he had returned to Forreb without consulting her, despite knowing how unreliable Tuesday was.
Though kind of irritated by his secrecy, the memory of his vulnerable expression during a personality shift softened her anger. It had been too long. Perhaps she should buy a reunion gift.
The hotel was downtown, near a shopping mall. With hours to spare before the meeting, Raven decided to spend some time picking up the perfect present.

Meanwhile, in a manor in Frihamen City, a wounded Cloudshadow Sect member knelt before Timonthy, his voice trembling with grievance. “Mr. Devonport, please stand up for me!”
