Chapter 742
Chapter 742
The screen had indeed displayed “Transaction Invalid,” but not due to insufficient funds. Had that been the case, the systern would have clearly stated, “Insufficient Balance. Payment Declined.”
What baffled the supervisor was that the moment the 1.5 million was transferred into the store’s account, it was instantly refunded back to Raven’s card. She tried again, only for the same result. So the amount would leave, then immediately return.
Raven, too, was puzzled as her phone vibrated with a refund notification. ‘Why can’t the payment go through? She knew her account held more than enough.
“How would you defend yourself now?” The mall manager’s patience had worn thin, his tone dripping with accusation. “You claimed your card had funds, yet the transaction failed. This proves you can’t afford anything here!”
He jabbed a finger toward her. “I’m calling security. You’ll be handed over to Frihamen authorities and jailed for fraud. You…”
Before he could finish, the supervisor tugged urgently at his sleeve, her face ashen. “Manager, you need to see this!”
“What now?” he snapped. “It’s obvious she doesn’t have…”
The word “money” died on his lips as he stared at the payment records. His eyes bulged at the bizarre loop of transfers. The store’s account automatically refunded the amount to Raven’s card.
“Why is our account sending money back to hers?” he muttered. “Unless…” His mind raced through possibilities until one horrifying realization struck. Whirling toward Raven, his voice trembled. “What is your name?”
Raven observed their sudden panic with detached curiosity. “Raven Valor,” she replied coolly.
The manager and supervisor gasped in unison. That name matched their mysterious, never–seen owner. To confirm, the manager frantically dialed his superior. The response left his legs wobbling like jelly.
Struggling to steady himself, he staggered toward Raven and bowed so deeply his forehead nearly touched the floor. “Boss!”
Raven blinked. “What did you just call me?”
“Boss! You’ve finally returned!” The manager’s eyes welled with tears, his earlier arrogance replaced by abject relief.
The crowd erupted in shocked murmurs. “Did he just call a lower–realm woman Boss?”
“No way! How is it possible!”
“What? Why am I your boss?” Raven’s confusion deepened. She had re–entered Forreb as a Vyrdenian, and no one should know her past identity. Even during her previous time here, she had delegated all business holdings to her brothers. So there was no possibility that she owned this mall.
“But you are!” The manager gestured wildly at the card. Although he had never seen his boss’s face, the payment failure proved that the card’s owner was the mall’s boss.
His hand was shaking excitedly. “Do you know why the payment failed? Only the owner’s payments would auto–refund like this! Can’t you see? That’s why your transaction failed, because this entire mall belongs to you and you don’t need to spend a single cent when shopping in your mall.”
His voice cracked with emotion. “You’ve been absent for over five years. Have you forgotten all about this?”
