“Then we shall look forward to good news from you, Mack.” The family heads all nodded in agreement, chiming in one after another.
“We’ll definitely be there for Mr. Cherry’s wedding to Lady Valor!”
“Certain irrelevant individuals are hardly worth your attention, Mack. She’s just making a fuss–nothing she does is going to matter in the end.”
“Raven, give it up. People like you don’t make it in Forreb. People from the bottom should know their place. You might’ve gotten by with tricks and charm in the lower realm, but in Forreb, it’s power that counts.”
“To us, you’re nothing but a powerless wannabe trying to act tough. It’s not impressive–it’s just pathetic.”
“People like you should know when to back off. If you mess with the wrong crowd, you won’t even get the chance to cry about it.”
Raven gave a cold laugh. “My affairs are none of your concern.”
Raven did not even bother bringing up the fact that she was a Forrebian. Even if she were not, she would never see herself as lesser in front of these people.
Having power or status meant having responsibility, not a free pass to look down on people.
Raven said, “Since you’ve made your choice, Dangelo, I suggest you observe the man you’ve chosen–Felipe. Perhaps you’ll learn what kind of person he really is.”
Dangelo shot her a look like she was insane. “Utter nonsense…” he muttered, then turned and left with his bodyguards.
The other family heads exchanged mocking glances. “What a joke. Where does she get that kind of confidence?” they murmured. Then they respectfully bid Mack farewell and left.
Once everyone had left, silence returned to the Cherry family’s living room.
Felipe folded his arms, sneering at Raven and Cassian. “And just who do you think you are? Once my wedding to Lady Valor is finalized, the first thing I’ll do is make sure you’re dealt with.”
Raven remained unfazed. “I’m afraid you won’t get that chance,” she said coolly.
“Stop talking nonsense!” Felipe snapped, visibly frustrated when Raven did not show the fear or regret he was expecting. “Who do you think you are, huh? What gives you the right to say I won’t be able to marry Lady Valor?”
Raven arched a brow. “Don’t believe me? Then how about a little wager?”
A glint of calculation flashed in Felipe’s eyes. “A bet? Fine, you asked for it. If I don’t get to marry Lady Valor, then our family will give you and Cassian our
blessing.
“But if you lose, both you and Cassian will stay here in the Cherry family–doing menial servant work. And on top of that, you’ll owe us five million kyrts.”
“Cassian isn’t a member of the Cherry family–what right do you have to use him as a bargaining chip?” Raven said.
She chuckled coldly before she added, “If you fail to marry Lady Valor, then all the members of the Cherry family will become my servants. But if you win, I’ll be at your mercy.”
“No problem!” Felipe agreed without a second thought. He was eager to put Raven in her place and could hardly wait to see her silenced and s
