Chapter 953
Cassian knew he had to make a statement–loud and clear. If he didn’t put the fear of God into every schemer in Forlunda City, the second he and Raven rode out of town, those power–hungry vultures would band together and come for Cloudshadow Sect. No way was he letting that happen.
Cloudshadow was Raven’s blood, sweat, and tears, her legacy carved in stone. Cassian would burn the world down before he let anyone touch it.
“Mr. Lysander,” Timothy called out, hunched over a pile of loot sent by the city’s bigwigs. He was tallying it up like a kid counting Halloween candy. “Check this out–gifts from the Forlunda families.”
Timothy grinned. “Two hundred pearls, a hundred diamonds–all over a carat–fifty agates, emeralds, and sapphires. Oh, and two crates stuffed with cash, plus some fancy herbs.”
Timothy popped open the small box in the center, his eyes landing on ten shimmering elixir tablets nestled inside.
“Meh, just a bunch of mid–tier elixir tablets,” he muttered, barely hiding his disappointment. “These things are pretty much worthless.”
Back in the day, Timothy would’ve guarded these intermediate elixir tablets like they were pure gold, too precious to even use. But ever since Raven hooked him up with those top–shelf special elixir tablets, these low–grade ones just didn’t cut it anymore.
He spun around, catching sight of Jake Robinett sulking by the doorway. The lanky guy, ditched by Cassian, looked like he’d just been kicked in the gut. A flicker of scorn crossed Timothy’s face.
“So, Mr. Lysander,” Timothy called out, nodding toward the box, “what’s the plan for this stuff?”
Cassian didn’t even glance at the gifts. His lip curled, and he scoffed, “They’re trying to pass off mid–tier elixir tablets as gifts? What, do they think we’re nobodies? Screw it, just dump these on that Earth sect that’s been kissing up to us.”
Jake’s jaw dropped. “Hold up, are you for real?” he blurted, eyes wide. “Those are intermediate elixir tablets, man! And you’re just… giving them away?”
His heart practically cracked at the thought. They’d scraped together those tablets, too precious to even touch, and sent them as a tribute to win over the
new lord.
But this clueless guy? He was tossing them aside like they were candy, ready to hand them out to some random Earth faction. Jake was so mad he could’ve passed out right there.
“How dare you talk to Mr. Lysander like that, you jerk?” Timothy’s voice dripped with venom.
Before Jake could blink, Timothy’s hand cracked across his face, the sharp slap echoing in the room
Jake, the spoiled darling of his family, had never been touched like this. His cheek stung, but the icy glare from Timothy–tall, imposing, and dangerously composed–kept him from lashing out. He knew why he was here, and crossing Timothy wasn’t part of the plan.
Clutching his reddening face, Jake spat, “You’re seriously giving those precious elixir tablets to them? Your little band of lackeys?
“That’s insane! A small–time guy like you, who’s never seen the world, has no business handling the lord’s affairs!”
In his eyes, Cassian was nothing but a pretty face, coasting on charm. With his limited perspective, he wasn’t fit to serve someone as grand as the new lady.
If he were in charge, Jake thought smugly, the manor would run like clockwork. No ridiculous stunts like this.
He’d been so sure that once he explained the true value of the elixir tablets to Cassian, the lord would see reason. Surely, he’d order Timothy to lock them away, safe and sound.
But Cassian didn’t even glance his way. Instead, he turned to Timothy with a lazy smirk. “So, these ‘priceless‘ trinkets are treasures to some, huh? Toss the elixir tablets into the carp feed for the pond out back. As for the pearls and diamonds? Dump them at the bottom for decoration. Might make the fish happy.”
