It didn’t matter if the elixir tablet wasn’t at special level. As long as the new lord tossed them a few high–grade elixir tablets, they’d happily tag along as her loyal sidekick.
The crowd buzzed with excitement, everyone scheming about how to score a spot in the new lord’s crew.
Out of nowhere, a scruffy–looking guy stepped forward, clutching a water bottle. He leaned in toward the group, a sly grin on his face. “Wanna meet the new lord? I’m your guy. Me and her? Childhood besties. Super tight, you know.”
Raven just stared, one eyebrow raised. ‘Childhood besties? News to me.’
She didn’t have any childhood pals, let alone this dude.
Her eyes flicked to the bottle in his hand, its weird logo catching her attention.
She could’ve sworn she’d seen it somewhere before, but this guy? Total stranger. No way he was some long–lost friend.
The guy wasn’t done. “Look, if you wanna get in good with the new Overlord–or snag some of those fancy elixir tablets–I can hook you up. Special
ones? Pfft, I can get you stuff even better than that.”
The crowd smirked, clearly not buying it. One of them piped up, “You’re saying you’re tight with the new lord?”
“Damn straight,” the guy shot back, puffing out his chest. “We go way back. Childhood sweethearts doesn’t even cover it.”
A snicker rippled through the group. “Hold up,” another voice chimed in. “Ain’t the new lord some old hag who popped a youth potion? You’re, what, twenty–something? How’s that math work?”
The guy blinked, caught off guard. “Who said she’s old? You ever even seen the new lord?”
The group exchanged wary glances, uncertainty rippling through them.
O
None of them had ever laid eyes on the new lord, and whispers about his age–or even her identity–hung in the air.
‘What if, against all odds, the new lord is a young woman?‘ The thought was far–fetched, but it lingered.
Amid the hesitation, that young man seized the moment, his voice cutting through the tension. “Look, there’s only four spots up for grabs. Most of you ain’t getting one, so why not throw in with me? Help me snag a spot, and we all win.”
He flashed a grin, leaning in like he was sharing a secret. “Here’s the deal: if I get that spot, everyone who backs me gets two special–grade elixir tablets.
Free. No strings.
“Two primo tablets for doing next to nothing–how’s that for a steal?”
The crowd’s doubts melted into outright scorn. Their faces said it all: they weren’t buying his pitch for a second.
The young man, unfazed, just shrugged, palms up in mock regret.
Then, his back stiffened. A piercing gaze bored into him from behind, sharp enough to make his skin prickle.
He spun around, locking eyes with Raven’s deep, unreadable stare. Surprise flickered across his face before a sly spark lit up his expression. “Well, well,
so it’s-”
He caught himself mid–sentence, switching gears with a smirk. “So it’s just a lone girl, huh? Listen, you’re flying solo, and no way you’re cracking the secret room’s traps on your own.
“Team up with me, and we’ll fight for that last spot together. If I score it, I’ll sweet–talk the new lord into tossing you two elixir tablets, too. Deal?”

Raven didn’t budge, her face a blank slate. The young man leaned closer, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. “Come on, you know you’re tempted. That’s a killer offer.
“Just say yes, and we’re in this together!”
Raven’s eyes didn’t waver. “You’re claiming you and the new lord go way back? Childhood sweethearts or something?”
